Missing 'Takoradi girls' were not kidnapped - Police

Ghana Police Service has debunked media reports which suggested that another group of persons reported missing in the Western regional capital had been kidnapped.

Making the announcement on the Service's twitter handle, @GHPoliceService, they disclosed that three out of the five persons recently reported to have gone missing have been found.

The three are Fauzia Aliu, Augustina Koomson and Rosina Gyekyewaa.

Barely a month after remains of four girls in Takoradi whose abduction and subsequent murders had rocked the country another set of persons had been reported missing in the same region.

17-year-old Fauzia Aliu, according to the police, returned home around 8:00pm on 2 October 2019.

“The father by name Aliu Suleman, brought his daughter to the Police on 4 October 2019. The victim informed the Police that she left home for Accra in search of her biological mother.”

In the case of Rosina Gyekyewaa, the police reported that the 13-year-old was found loitering in Cape Coast.

According to the police, the “victim stated that she learnt the mother lived in Kumasi so she was going to her mother because she doesn't want to stay with her grandmother.”

The third person, Augustina Koomson who was reported missing by her husband is receiving medical treatment and staying with her brother in Accra

“On 4 October 2019 Police were able to contact victim Augustina Koomson and she said that she was sick and living with her brother in Accra. She also informed Police that she is receiving treatment and will report herself to Police when she returns to Takoradi.”

The police cautioned the media about twisting the public announcement of the missing persons posted on their website.
