Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is National Chair of the NDC
The NDC USA has observed with disquiet what is happening in Ghana under this Nana Akufo Addo led NPP Government in the last few days i.e. the alleged secret National Identification Registration at Awudome and the Invitation of the National Chairman of the NDC by the CID.
The invitation letter from the CID stated that “some of the kidnappings and fire outbreaks are being orchestrated by unidentified groups, persons and individuals, persons picked up for investigation and interrogation have mentioned your name [Chairman Ampofo] as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country. “
First of all, while we urge the security services and law enforcement agencies to swiftly conclude investigations on the plethora of cases bringing the alleged perpetrators to book, we fully condemn any attempts to create a smoke screen by inviting and further attempting to intimidate the NDC through our distinguished National Chairman.
Secondly, we believe that the Honorable Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is a law-abiding citizen and would not engage in acts that will bring his hard-earned reputation into disrepute. As such, the law enforcement agencies and security agencies in discharging their duties should not unduly target him.
With this statement, we the NDC-USA stand solidly with our Council of Elders with their call for the national chairman not to respond to the invitation of the CID commissioner. The CID commissioner should do the honorable thing and submit herself first for questioning for announcing she knew the whereabouts of the kidnapped Takoradi girls, a few weeks ago.
We strongly believe that linking long-standing cases of arson and kidnapping to Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo are not only frivolous, but smirk of acts of desperation to divert attention from the substantive issues under investigation.
We continuously encourage our concerned comrades in the USA and throughout the diaspora, to treat the invitation statement with the contempt that it deserves, while remaining calm and resolute to see these baseless allegations and his court case, out.
