NDC’s problems are bigger than Kwesi Botchwey Report – Kofi Portuphy

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Portuphy, has dismissed assertions that the leadership of the party dreads the publication of the contents of its classified election review report; the Kwesi Botchwey report.

Portions of the report have been published by some media houses and cited by some individuals in recent times. Members of the party however have severally described the said publications as ‘fake’ and ‘unoriginal’ arguing that it is impossible that the much guarded document would be released much more that the contents of the ‘so called’ excerpts are questionable.

Speaking on GHOne’s State of Affairs program, Mr. Portuphy maintained that the party’s problems go beyond the contents of the Kwesi Botchwey report and it doesn’t matter whether or not they are disclosed to the public. The focus instead he believes, should be on the commitment and resolve of party executives and members to solve the identified loopholes that accounted for the party’s defeat.

“We have already been destroyed by our shortcomings, our omissions and commissions and we are aware of those things, so it is not be the publication of the report that should resolve our problems, it should be our commitment and dedication to resolving the issues”, he said.

Mr. Portuphy who expressed confidence in the party’s comeback in 2020 revealed plans and measures the party is putting in place to ensure that it secures the government seat in the next polls.

“We will win power in 2020, we have the men, our management capabilities are high, and we are skillful…..We have put an implementation committee in place, they have made prescriptions for us…..”

A 13-member committee tasked by the leadership of the NDC presented a 455-page document detailing what caused its defeat at the December 2016 polls and proffering some measures to be adopted in readying the party for the 2020 elections.

Its current leadership has kept the document under lock and key stating that it is meant for internal consumption and the general public generating furore within various ranks.
