Government will continue to christen and rename all the educational institutions in the country to founding fathers’ of Ghana despite concerns of the members of the opposition parties including the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“We now have C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, University of Energy and Natural Resources after Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, we will name the J.B. Danquahs and others”, Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen revealed.

Nana Obiri Boahen who spoke to Kumasi-based FM in a telephone interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com described concerns coming from persons kicking against the renaming as empty noise.

“NDC and those people are making unnecessary noise. They can do whatever they like if they don’t understand. The NDC changed Jubilee House to Flagstaff and this what we are also doing.

They can rename all the universities when they come to power”, Nana Obiri Boahen fumed.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the 4th Congregation of the University in Sunyani on Saturday, August 10, 2019 was quoted to have said “Following the decision taken by the University’s Council on August 3, 2018, the university will be named after one of the illustrious sons of the region, Professor K.A Busia after the decision had received Parliamentary approval “, he stated amidst applause.

This comes barely a month after a proposal for the renaming of the Navrongo campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) after C. K. Tedam, the immediate past Chairman of the Council of Elders of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who passed on recently.

At the beginning of this month, Parliament passed the University for Business and Integrated Development Studies Bill 2018.

The Bill proposed the name of the institution as S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies but members on the Majority side of Parliament disagreed.
