The National Service Scheme has withdrawn with immediate effect, the National Service Staff recruitment which was done in December, last year.

A statement issued by the managers of the scheme and signed by the Acting Executive Director, Ussif Mustapha said:”This decision has been informed by a thorough considerations of violations of due process prior to the recruitment”

The National Service Secretariat (NSS) came under heavy criticism after it recently recruited new staff and announced a 60% increment in monthly allowance for service personnel.

The move according to some elements within the elephant stock was politically motivated at the time to frustrate the plans of the incoming New Patriotic Party government.

Notwithstanding the backlash from critics, the managers of the scheme defended the move and said the recruitment was done in accordance with due process.

According to the statement, the Public Services Commission stepped in to advise the former Acting Executive Director of the scheme to halt the process after several concerns were raised on it, but this was ignored and some appointment letters were issued on December 15, 2016 to some persons.

The statement thus said”Management wishes to advise persons affected by this decision to look forward to a new opportunity to have the staff recruitment properly carried out”
