Renowned native priest, Nana Kwaku Bonsam has slammed the Akufo-Addo government for its decision to construct a national cathedral for Christians.

“I’m so disappointed in this government, in its decision to build a national cathedral for pastors; I’ve never heard that America has built a national Cathedral and even if they have it, you can’t compare their economy to ours, for you to decide to build a structure like that” he said.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 Fm, Kwaku Bonsam said the president erred in mooting the idea of a national cathedral since in his opinion it will only benefit the Christian fraternity.

Questioning the need for such an edifice, Kwaku Bonsam says the nation is underdeveloped and needs funds to alleviate its citizens from endemic poverty, and hence it’ll be better if the economy stabilizes before it considers an initiative of a national cathedral.

“There are people in this country who do not have a place to sleep, hungry people all around us, why can’t we use that money for the cathedral to help the suffering of such people,” he said.

To him, it is a misplaced priority by the government led by Nana Akufo Addo to commit taxpayers’ money to the construction of such edifice, citing other national venues that could serve the purpose of Christian gatherings.

“The nation has various venues that can be used for Christian gatherings, we have the Independence square, national theatre, Jubilee Park, sports stadia among others, why does the president want to commit funds to this” he questioned.

The cost of the national cathedral is not yet known as the Board of Trustees for the project say architects have not yet completed their work.
