The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region has announced the immediate suspension of market days in the area as part of measures to curb the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The suspension has become necessary due to overcrowding in market places, which a complete disregard for the social distancing protocols.
It is also to avoid the further spread of the infection to other people after two persons in the area have tested positive for the virus.
A statement from the Assembly signed by the Chief Executive, William Aduum and release today, said the suspension was enforced in conjunction with the Navro-Pio and in consultation with the market queens.
The statement noted that the directive was not a total lockdown of the markets. It said the markets were still open for businesses all day and people could go do buying and selling and leave afterwards.
The statement entreated the people of the area to comply with the directive and reminded them to observe the protocols given by the Ghana Health Service such as proper handwashing, social and physical distancing and the wearing of face masks.
