Normalization Committee make u-turn on Special Competition

The Ghana FA Normalization Committee is set to make a U-turn on its decision to no longer organise the Special Competition for Premier League clubs.

The four-member Committee last month, announced the decision to cancel the competition due to some clubs entrenched position to frustrate them.

The Parliamentary Select Committee and the Sports Ministry waded in to resolve the matter. During the process, the NC reportedly maintained it's wished to focus on their mandate which is due to end in March but suggested the setting up of a team to handle all matters regarding the Special Competition.

A seven-member team was commissioned consisting of one member each from Parliament, the Premier League, Division One and GHALCA together with the deputy Sports Minister Perry Okudzeto. They were tasked to thrash out all contentious issues regarding the Special Competition and provide a roadmap.

“First of all, it is not correct that the ministerial committee was going to mandate a new body to run the competition. The Ministry is not a league-organizing body” the spokesperson of the Normalization Committee, Dan Kwaku Yeboah said in reaction to reports that GHALCA was going to handle the Special Competition.

“All the minister sought to do was to resolve what brought the differences and afterwards there would be a roadmap to start the competition.

“The Committee was set up to, within three days, thrash out what led to the misunderstanding between the [Premier League] clubs and the NC. After submitting their reports, the Minister would forward the agreement between the parties as to the modalities of the competition to the NC to organize it. We are yet to receive the final report,” he added.

The Special Competition is reportedly set to kick off on March 19 to June 21.
