Anti-corruption advisor Daniel Batidam has stated that since the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has a responsibility to account to Ghanaians, he has a moral duty to resign if his complaints are not addressed by government.

According to Daniel Batidan, the Office of the Special Prosecutor is another means of wasting resources as there are already existing anti-corruption agencies which even lack resources to function properly.

“Office of the Special Prosecutor is a useless addition to the many addition of anti-corruption agencies and a wastage of resources,” he said on 3FM’s Sunrise.

Martin Amidu had complained about some major challenges hampering his work as the Special Prosecutor at the National Audit Forum organised by the Ghana Audit Service.

He said as a result of the challenges, he cannot work effectively as expected.

But Mr Batidam mentioned that Mr Amidu has now realised that his office as the Special Prosecutor is another political gimmick which does not intend to fight corruption.

He advised that since the Special Prosecutor has a reputation to protect, he should advise himself sooner than later.

“[Mr] Amidu has realised that the Office of the Special Prosecutor is just another political gimmick which does not intend to fight corruption. I think he should advise himself sooner than later.”

The former Corruption Advisor at the Presidency further expressed belief that Mr Amidu’s speech at the National Audits Forum was a warning to the government to have the challenges addressed.

“Amdiu made a calculated speech hence he knows what he was saying.

“’He was sending a clear signal,” Mr Batidam mentioned.

“Martin Amidu is not a type that makes excuses. I think he is sending a very detailed message to the government and the president.”

Daniel Batidan claimed Martin Amidu would not take any position just to be taking salary and would do the right thing sooner than later since he is crying out loud to all Ghanaians.
