The administration of President Nana Akufo-Addo is still better than the erstwhile John Mahama government since 85% of Ghanaians per an Afrobarometre report of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) in 2014 said Mr Mahama was taking the country in the wrong direction.
Speaking on the latest Afrobarometre Survey which showed that 59 per cent of Ghanaians believe the Akufo-Addo government is taking Ghana in the wrong direction, Deputy Minister of Information, Pius Enam Hadzide told Class91.3FM’s 12 Live mid-day news on Thursday, 28 November 2019, that: “Under the NDC in 2014, that was at a whopping 85 per cent. That has moved down to about some 59 per cent, which means that gradually, we are getting away from the trends of the past and getting toward the median and our performance is only getting better by the day”.
Mr Hadzide pointed out that: “It takes time to deal with the myriad challenges that were inherited and that is why if you check the number of Ghanaians who are optimistic that the future is bright and that the 2020 outlook will be better, that is a whopping 54-and-over per cent”.
Despite government touting its achievements with claims of good macroeconomic indices, some Ghanaians say they do not feel the effect in their living conditions.
However, Mr Hadzide argued: “There is a time-gap for the macroeconomic indicators to reflect at the micro-level”.
According to him, the NPP has built a strong foundation “and we are very confident that in the coming years, the results in that foundation that has been laid will start reflecting”.
