A Former Director of Elections at the Electoral Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Damoah Agyemang is pointing fingers at parliamentarians as being part of the cause of the corruption that has bedeviled the Commission over the years.

“The Commission is supposed to render its financial accounts to parliament and if that is not done, parliament should be blamed “, he said.

Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has waded into the corruption allegations at the Commission accusing former chair, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan of superintending illegalities when in office adding that the issue of corrupt practices is an age old thing.

“I could remember that the immediate past chairman of the Commission couldn’t account for money used to conduct an election in a particular year when he appeared before us some time ago”, the Suame lawmaker recollected.

“I will say we should investigate both the past and present malfeasance that has happened earlier under both chairpersons “, admonishing Members of Parliament should sit up.

“Corruption within EC was there before Charlotte Osei assumes office as chairperson”, he alleged.

Speaking to the allegations on Kumasi-based Abusua FM, the former Director of Elections stated the lawmakers must blame themselves for sitting aloof for things to deteriorate to this level.

“We should probe parliament and EC activities because they all have failed to work to benefit the country”, he demanded.
