Ghana Police Service has given assurance of their commitment to investigate and bring to book all officers who improperly handled journalists during the coverage of Koku Anyidoho's arrest.
The guarantee was given after the Director of Operations, Simon Afeku and the Public Affairs Director, ACP David Eklu visited JoyNews after reports that their journalist was brutalised by personnel of the Service.
JoyNews reporter, Latif Iddris was allegedly maltreated by some police personnel in the course of his duty.
Latif Idriss claims he was assaulted by some police officers at the CID Headquarters for asking a question about the technical name of the vehicle that was being used by the Police Service.
However, ACP David Eklu promised Managing News Editor of JoyNews, Elvis Kwashie of a full-scale investigation into the allegations.
He reminded the gathering of the role played by the media in the operations of the Police Service adding that it will not renege in getting to the bottom of the matter.
"I don't think that it will be in our interest to push this case under the carpet. We have had the best of relationship with the media. The media has given us a lot of support in our operations and we will not want to tarnish this relationship that we have. So we are also interested in finding out what happened because he was not the only one who covered the event, there were others who covered it live so this one we still want to find out what went wrong" he said
After four X-Ray examinations and a CT scan, doctors have concluded that Joy News’ Latif Iddrisu has a fractured skull.
Latif explains he has been referred to a consultant neurosurgeon to determine the possibility of a surgery.
Ghana Police Service Director of Operations, Simon Afeku emphasised the need for all stakeholders to always behave in a professional manner to ensure peace at all times.
He, however, stressed that "at the end of whatever work or findings that we will come out with, the Police administration will not relent. If anybody is found to culpable of acting criminally or unprofessionally, he will be dealt with accordingly. So that assurance must be there."
