Societe Generale Ghana has donated an amount of GHS500,000.00 to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.

The donation took place on Thursday 23rd April 2020 at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The gesture as reckoned by the Bank is to help Government and therefore Ghanaians curtail the pandemic and support the vulnerable in society.

In addition, the Bank hopes this donation will help in the purchase of personal protective equipment for health workers who are at the forefront in combatting the disease.

Mr. Hakim Ouzzani, the Managing Director of SG Ghana stated that the Bank has purchased two ventilators worth GHS300,000.00 for two (2) selected health facilities in addition to the cash donation being done today. Mr. Ouzzani also mentioned an amount of GHS 416,666.68 which the Bank had already donated through the Ghana Association of Bankers towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

These contributions bring the Bank total contribution towards the fight against COVID-19 to over GHS1,216,666.68.

Adding on, Mr Edmund Brobbey, Advisor to the Managing Director of SG Ghana noted the call for help by the government was in the right direction signalling the need to be unified in curbing the COVID-19 pandemic and sustaining economic stability of the country.

Mr. Brobbey called on other organisations to join this laudable cause to ensure a better Ghana for ALL. He intimated that Societe Generale Ghana had stepped up prevention measures against the pandemic for both staff and its customers and will continued to do so to safeguard the health of all.

Her Ladyship Madam Sophia Akuffo, the former Chief Justice received the cheque on behalf of Government and thanked the Bank for the kind gesture. Her Ladyship also called for other individuals, Institutions and Organisations to join the fight against COVID – 19.

All across the African Continent, the various Societe Generale subsidiaries are assisting in the fight against COVID-19 in their respective countries. Societe Generale Group has also directly donated EUR 1.5 million to the Association Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) towards the fight against COVID-19 in Africa.

For nearly 50 years, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been providing medical assistance to people whose lives or health are threatened, all over the world. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, MSF's added value is based in particular on its medical expertise acquired during large-scale epidemics: procedures for triage and infection control, health monitoring and health promotion activities, rapid deployment of structures for taking care of the infected people, etc.

Today, in response to COVID-19, MSF is deploying activities in a number of countries in West and Central & East Africa (notably in Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal and Mozambique). The measures are evolving as the epidemic progresses. For all its activities, MSF works in coordination with local health authorities to assess needs and propose appropriate solutions.

In addition to the Societe Generale donation, a system has been set up to allow Staff who wish it, to participate individually in this collective mobilisation via a donation to MSF.
