Samia Nkrumah has failed in her bid to recapture the Jomoro seat in the Western Region.

The only daughter of Ghana’s first president Dr Kwame Nkrumah lost the seat in 2012 on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party.

She attempted becoming the flag bearer of the party but also lost the primaries to Mr Ivor Greenstreet.

She then opted to run for parliament again in this year’s polls but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s Paul Essien.

Mr Essien polled 11, 694 to topple incumbent Leo Kofi Armah Amenlamah who contested Wednesday’s parliamentary election as an independent candidate after he lost the governing NDC’s parliamentary primary.

Ms Nkrumah polled 9,714 of the total 48,440 votes cast. Mr Amenlamah polled 1,645. Thomas Elleamo Yankey who contested on the ticket of the NDC polled 14, 241.

The Progressive People Party’s Mathieu Kwao Bentho polled 2,613 while Jemaima Soboe of the People’s National Convention polled 334 votes. Stephen Awuah of the United Front Party got 101 votes. The constituency recorded 1, 098 rejected votes.
