I have noted with dismay and total disappointment the unjust suspension of the Eastern Regional Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Fred Dzeny for advising Nana Addo led government on corruption.
He was reported to have advised government that “The ruling government should be ready first and foremost to prosecute their own when the slightest incident of corruption is raised against the ruling government then they can also get the guts to prosecute the opposition…..When you look at the corruption cases in Ghana, it is not just politicians who are corrupt, the public servants, civil servants they are all corrupt. When you look at it, it is the Chief Directors who prepare contract documents and other things so if we are blaming the Politicians, it is not right, it is the public servants generally”
I find it quite strange and unacceptable that an organisation whose mandate is to fight corruption in Ghana would suspend one of its top officials for expressing his candid opinion on corruption.
What seriously beats my imagination and of course majority of Ghanaians is the position taken by the Executive Director of EOCO, ACP K.K Amoah (Rtd.) that Fred Dzeny has breached his professional ethics.
So it means ACP K.K Amoah (Rtd.) after all does not believe that corrupt officials should be punished? If that is his position then he is not fit to occupy that office because the fight against corruption is not meant for weak and timid people like him.
The suspension of the Eastern Regional EOCO Director is wicked, unwarranted, an attack on the fight against corruption and smacks of intolerance to the highest order.
As a citizen who refuses to be a spectator, I am by this statement calling on the President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to as a matter of urgency sack the embattle Executive Director of EOCO, ACP K.K Amoah (Rtd.) for he is not fully committed to the fight against corruption.
The unjust suspension of Fred Dzeny must be reversed immediately to reaffirm government’s commitment to the fight against corruption.
