The Ministry of Health has disclosed that it will begin distribution of vaccines to prevent the spread of the H1N1 Influenza Type A that has claimed the lives of students at the Kumasi Academy School in the Ashanti Region.

The disease has already killed four students with several others on admission. The outbreak heightened fears that students may carry the virus home as they leave school for the Christmas holidays.

However, the Ministry has assured Ghanaians that the vaccination programme will begin before vacation.

Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Robert Cudjoe told the media on Thursday that the vaccines arrived around 7:50pm Wednesday.

He said there would be a meeting on Friday in Kumasi Academy where the outbreak started.

In addition to the vaccine – Tamiflu – other drugs used in treating the disease are expected to be administered to the scores of students already being managed.
