Eugene Sackey, DCE for Upper West Akim District
The District Chief Executive of Upper West Akim District, Eugene Sackey is being accused by his constituency chairman Nana Addai Obuobi of scheming to cause his defeat in the ongoing constituency elections of the party.
Nana Addai Obuobi said he is aware of the DCE’s is consulting with leading members of the party to support his ‘nefarious’ activities, including having secret meetings with the constituency organizer to cause his defeat, adding that he has voice recordings of the DCE plotting his defeat.
“I have helped him with all that I have to get him the position, but now he is going round to destroy me. He went to the Regional Minister and the Senior Minister to tell lies about me. But he forgot that I made him who he is today, using a group called young elephants to campaign for him but this is how he wants to pay me”
The constituency chairman also argued that ever since Eugene Sackey became the DCE of the Upper West Akim District, there is nothing to show in terms of development project a year on, adding that “people in the district are gradually losing faith in the DCE and I dare the media to come to the district to see for themselves.”
“It is not as if I am against the DCE, but all I want is development and peace not what he is doing, causing division among us. Even the chiefs are angry with him because he would not regard them, why” he told Bright Kwesi Asempa on Onua FM morning show.
On a 1:21 minutes audio clip in possession of Onua FM, the DCE is heard in a phone conversation with an unknown male, accusing the constituency chairman of hijacking the party and running it like his private business. He said he has an interest in the ongoing constituency elections and that if he is able to put his men in charge of the party, the 2020 Parliamentary elections will be easy for him.
Meanwhile, when the DCE was asked if he was the one speaking on the voice clip, the DCE answered in affirmative but was quick to add that it was “just a normal conversation and everyone knows I have nothing against the chairman”
The DCE also alleged that the constituency chairman sees him as a threat should he (the DCE) declare to contest in the 2020 elections.
