The National President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah has sent a strong caution to political actors to stay away from the impasse at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus and allow the University and it’s structured to bring this matter to an amicable resolution.

In a press release signed by the National President of the Association and copied to MyNewsGh.com, it noted, “UTAG has observed with worry events that have been unfolding on the KNUST campus and pledge to cooperate with all stakeholders in finding a lasting solution to the matter."

"Whiles UTAG believes in the rights of students to go on lawful demonstrations, it is however appalled by the acts of vandalism, bodily injuries and destruction of properties on the campus” he stated.

Dr. Opoku Mensah called on the government as matter of urgency should put in place the necessary measures to safeguard the lives of the staff of the University and their properties.

He, therefore, appreciated the intervention by the University management and the Ashanti Regional Security Council in closing down the University in the face of the current challenges.

He again urged all factions to remain calm and quickly resolve the impasse so that normal academic life will be restored as soon as possible.
