Five of the accused persons involved in the murder of Major Maxwell Mahama has told an Accra High court that they don’t have money to afford the services of a lawyer.

Out of the fourteen accused persons standing trial for murder, 9 of them already have lawyers to defend them but five are yet to get lawyers.

When the presiding Judge, Justice Mariama Owusu asked the reason they don’t have lawyers yet, Kofi Nyame, John Bosie and Bismarck Abanga revealed that their parents are dead and they don’t have anybody to pay for a lawyer’s services for them.

Kssapa FM’s Court Correspondent, Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman reported that the remaining two, Joseph Appiah and Kwadwo Anima however told the court that their parents are not picking their calls.

The judge has therefore adjourned the case to 21st March, 2018 for the five accused persons to get lawyers for jury to be empaneled.

The relatives of Major Maxwell Mahama were in court including his father.

The spokesperson for Major Mahama family, Zakaria Sakara Ahmed complained about the 14 accused persons because they were expecting all the faces in the video to have been apprehended.

The late Major Maxwell Mahama, who was on detachment duties at Denkyira Obuasi (now New Obuasi) in the Central Region was lynched by locals after they mistook him for an Armed robber.
