WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE DO? THEY ARE SOME SELFISH GROUP OF ILLITERATES WHO DO NOTHING FOR THEIR OWN VILLAGES. LOOK AT ASANTEHENE HE GETS PAID FROM EVERY BAR OF GOLD SOLD OUT OF OBUASI...HE BOUGHT MANSIONS IN CITIES HE DOESNT LIVE. AND STILL LIVES IN THE OLD HOUSE THAT WAS BUILT IN 1850. KUMASI IS FALLING APART, JUST GO TO THE MARKET, HIS OWN NEIGHBORHOOD . I SUGGEST ALL THESE BUMS GET KICKED OUT AND LET ELECTED OFFICIALS RUN OUR CITIES.

Well said. Society must be dynamic and improve with the
passage of time. Unfortunately, many establishments in Ghanaian
society have been static to the detriment of the very people they
are supposed to improve their lives. In fact, same is true for
several other African countries, if not all. Though the chieftaincies
and their advisers are to blame, the citizens are more to blame for
their apathy. Regular meetings to discuss topics on issues that
inhibit the progress of our communities, and to ensure that
unhelpful and antiquated beliefs and practices are discontinued
are necessary. Correction is best best administered in time!

You are right. Nonetheless it would be a tall order to abolish such antiquated beliefs, because I do not see our chiefs giving up on their beliefs. They are really enjoying the antiquated traditions and customs. Maybe continuous education would do.

and all the Kingship and Chieftaincy titles must only be for ceremonial purposes, and also only for those who choose to adhere to those practices. I think it is a beautiful cultural experience to understand how life was like 200 years ago, but to force such archaic believes on modern man borders and total embracement of backwardness, hypocrisy and ignorance.
There is nothing practical, progressive or even delicately sophisticated about chieftaincy/African royalty.
There should be a term limit governorship in all 10 regions, where by the candidate for Governor must be a dedicated indigene from a long line of ethnic family line within that region, to serve a full 5 year term, but can be relected indefinitely as long as the indigenes of that territory or region (all of whom must be natives of that region) vote him back in power.
Or for example, there shall be 100 senators from every region comprising of 100 dignified personalities from that ethnic group who will be charged with voting to elect the Governor.
The Governor of Western Region shall be appointed by 100 Western Regional Senators, The Governor of the Greater Accra Region shall be voted into power by 100 Ga Senators out of 3 contestants...if you have a better idea please propose it. We have to figure out ways to change our country for the better. Right now, nothing works.

What about our chiefs becoming 'administrative chiefs', who would take directives from the central government; and then draw their salaries from the government. In this way, we may be able to take some of their 'powers' away. For example, they would have no right to sell lands without the central government's approval.

OUR SO CALLED CHIEFS, MOST OF THEM WHETHER EDUCATED OR NOT ARE VERY LITTLE MINDED AND DO NOT USE THEIR OFFICE TO ENHANCE THE PROGRESS OF OUR ENVINROMRNTS, CULTURE/TRADITION OR THE ECONOMY OF OUR VILLAGES AND TOWNS.MOSHE DAYAN WAS A ONE EYD GENERAL WHO WON THE 1964 WAR FOR ISREAL, GORDON BROWN, WAS A ONE-EYED, CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER AND PRIME MINISTER FOR UK AND DAVID BLUNKET, WAS A ONE EYED HOME OFFICE MINISTER FOR BRITAIN.
