The electoral petition, which tests positive to being amended on weekly basis as if it were an undergraduate thesis topic, has already suffered heavy blows. Every electoral system is imperfect for perfection in a Heavenly quality. And naturally, every electoral system undergoes some modifications at least according to the dictates of modernization. Thus, nPP and nAna aDdo cannot claim any credit for any electoral reforms in Kwame Nkrumah's Ghana.

Kofi is it not strange to you that, per the EC's response, he only complained of signature being fainted on the duplicate copies but failed to state same for all other entries on the same pink sheets, such as the number votes obtained by the various contestants, the number of spoiled ballot papers etc, based on which the Ec was able to declare a winner. The lies and the mischief of the EC is not far fetch and i expected you to have noticed it with ease. The fact that Afari-Gyan and his malicious mavericks at the EC could not cite just one instance whereby the figures obtained by,say Nana Addo or Mahama, fainted out on the duplicate copies to support their claim, after scrutinized all the evidence( pink sheets) tendered in by the petitioners, clearly expose Afari-Gyan of the evil machination to throw dust onto the eyes of the justices at the Supreme Court.

NPP HAS NO CASE. 1. FOR OVER VOTING THEY ARE AWARE THAT EITHER THE PINK SHEETS
WERE GENUINELY NOT PROPERLY FILLED BY THE EC STAFF OR THEY(NPP) PAID THEM TO DELIBRATELY FILL THEM WRONGLY. 2. NO BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION IS ALSO FALSE CLAIM. THE SCENARIO IS THE SAME AS ABOVE - EC OFFICIALS PAID BY NPP TO DELIBERATELY FILL THE FORMS WRONGLY EVEN THOUGH EVERY BODY WAS BIOMETRICALLY VERIFIED. 3. NO SIGNATURES ON SHEETS: AGAIN EITHER THE CARBON WAS GENUINELY NOT EFFECTIVE AGAIN THE NPP AGENTS DELIBERATELY DID NOT PUT ENOUGH PRESURE ON THE PENS USED TO MAKE THEIR SIGNATURES APPEAR ON ALL THE SHEETS. 4. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE MISMATCH OF THE FIGURES AND THE WORDS. I AM NOT WORRIED IN ALL CASES SINCE THE EC HAS THE ORIGINAL FORMS. THE EC HAS TO BE VERY VIGILANT AND PROVE THIS BY BEING ABLE TO DETECT A CONSISTENT PATERN ON THE CLAIMS. THEY WILL REALIZE THAT THEY OCCURED IN NDC STRONG HOLDS. A FEW WILL OCCURE IN NPP STRONG HOLD.
SIR JOHN AND HIS HENCHMEN ARE DELIBERATELY CAUSING MISCHIEF. NPP ASSEMBLING VERY POWERFUL LEGAL TEAM. THIS IS PURELY PSYCHOLOGICAL;THIS IS JUST TO FOOL GHANAIANS THAT THEY HAVE A REALLY GOOD CASE TO FIGHT IN COURT WHEN IN FACT THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY GENUINE EVIDENCE. NOW THAT THEY HAVE MANAGED TO ALSO TRY TO POINT OUT THAT THERE IS A JUDGE ON THE SUPREME COURT PANEL WHO IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE, THEIR SUPPORTERS ARE NOW PSYCHED UP TO VIOLENTLY OBJECT TO A NO CASE AGAINST NPP AKUFO ADDO. PLEASE GHANAIANS, DO NOT TAKE AKUFO ADDO'S "ALL DIE BE DIE" SAYING LIGHTLY, HE MEANS EVERY BIT OF IT. NEXT TIME ROUND IT WILL BE A SUPPOSED "SPONTANEOUS REACTION" BY THE SUPPORTERS TO BURN GHANA. IN ORDER TO AVOID BLAME FOR WHAT HIS SUPPORTERS WILL DO, AKUFO ADDO HAS AGAIN COME OUT TO DECLARE PUBLICLY THAT HE WILL ACCEPT THE COURT DECISION. FOR AKUFO ADDO, IT IS NOW CLEAR TO ME THAT EITHER HE BECOMES THE PRESIDENT OF GHANA OR GHANA SHOULD BURN PERIOD.

The case is still before the Supreme Court and we'll find out sooner or later who is guilty and who is not. It's Nana's constitutional right just as it's every man's to legally challenge the conduct of elections and the results declared. I think Nana deserves a pat on the back for putting democracy in Ghana high on a pedestal. He chose the path of nobility than the path many african countries have trodden after election disputes to self destrucion.

What is Rawlings' standing in the Ghanaian society in relation to the practice of democracy? Is he not held as the Vanguard of the 1992 phase? Do we not know this man's history and what he had actually done to the practice of democracy in Ghana? This is only one example of the values of the Ghanaian society which is no where as solid as you would want us to believe. Kofi, let me ask you a few very simple questions. You would recall that in the last few weeks there have been sensational stories about "EC officials arrested for trying to sign pink sheets" one in Savelugu constituency, Northern region, and another somewhere in an Accra constituency. Plus another about a "break in somewhere in the Manya Krobo area. In all these cases, it was "NPP Activists" who effected the "arrests" and alerted the police etc. plus in all these stories, the NPP seemed to know so much detail of the plans to execute these crimes.
I never thought of a connection until you posed the question about who was lying and if people might have attempted to 'forge signatures' after the event. I also seem to recall that in their resubmission of their petition, the NPP petitioners "prayed the SC to ask the EC to provide them with the originals of the pink sheets", a request which was denied by the SC as indeed it was supposed that since all parties had access to the sheets in the first place, the petitioners should have the same pink sheets (al be it copies) in their possession.
You see, I suspect that there has been a conspiracy to tarnish the reputation of the EC and it's chair, bring the elections into disrepute (after all party agents had signed 1989 out of 2009 pink sheets) following the result. But this plan had been put in place as a 'PLAN B' in case the elections went the ways they did. These are my honest opinions.
I agree with the EC version and do not believe for one moment that the petition has any merit whatsoever. This is borne out by all the happenings and behaviour of the NPP through the media, their surrogates etc. as to your question of an apology, that definitely is long overdue from Nana Addo, but surely, they must pay heavily for slur, slander, mischaracterization and attempting to bring the elections, EC and our democracy into disrepute. I say this not as a supporter of any side, but an observer (and student) of Ghana politics who has read and followed all the shenanigans of various parties, groups and individuals since our pre and post independence era. It is appalling, it is disgraceful, and this silly, cheap and 'possessive approach' to politics must stop if we are to move forward as one nation.

If all the party agents were present at the polling stations and if they did not sign the pink sheets, why will they accept a copy given to them by the returning officer? By the way 1989 out of 2009 pink sheets were signed.

Kofi you were mischievous with your heading. You knew very well the sort of reaction you wanted to provoke before you even wrote the article.
All that we are doing is entertain ourselves with wishful thinking until the substantive case is heard. It is never true that the CI was illegal. The Constitution gives a number of qualifications before one can vote - you have to be Ghanaian, you have to be 18, you have to be of sound mind before you get the right to be registered to vote. The mode of registration and all other rules has been ceded to the EC. The EC therefore came up with the CI to establish the means of registering and voting. Without the verification, how can one even know that actual human beings voted and not fictitious individuals?
You failed to give weight to the conflicting stances of the EC and the President. One is ruling out that voting without verification took place. The other is claiming that it took place but that the right to vote is accorded everyone who voted by the Constitution. I do not think that right can even be asserted by a third party - it has to be by the individuals themselves.
You were asking how the NPP knew that people voted without verification. There is a line provided on the form for such numbers to be provided. A lot of the disputed 'pink sheets' have that line filled. Besides, there are a number who can attest to that having happened.
You also failed to question the contradictory statements by the EC. They claim that 1,099 of the pink sheets were in fact signed at polling stations or at collation centres. Yet further on, it claims all polling agents were given certified reports at all polling stations. What does it mean by certified results, if not the same as 'signed by Presiding Officers'? So how could all have been certified and yet 905 were not signed?
Can you really believe the assertion that signatures did not pierce through carbon paper but voting numbers did? It all remains to be resolved and that is why I think your heading was mischievous.
To answer your question directly, let me say that a man who resorts to court to settle a dispute should rather be commended than villified. The story could have been different in other countries around the world. Elsewhere, we could be counting bodies rather than 'pink sheets'.
Lastly, memorise this quote from the EC's response: "it was clear some representatives had presented incomplete inacurate constituency data". This will become important in the hearing. The EC is setting the scene to expalain discrepancies in numbers. How could the NPP agents have incomplete constituency data, given to them by the EC?
Anyway good try for provoking this debate but we all hopefully do not have to wait for long.

Just to state that the fact that the Constitution gives authority to the EC to make electoral rules does not mean whatever they say is constitutional. It even applies to the Legislature who have authority to pass primary legislation. For example, the Supreme ruled as unconstitutional, authority given to the Executive by an act of parliament to make additional requirement for dual citizenship because it was in conflict with the Constitution. Any act or omission by the Executive, Legislature and other constitutional bodies could be ruled unconstitutional if it is in conflict with the 1992 Constitution. Period.
Yes, I agree with you that Nana Akufo Addo made the right decision to challenge the results and that is why I said that whatever the outcome of the petition it will benefit Ghana because future elections would be improved. I also said that whatever the outcome Nana Akufo Addo's future in history is assured either as a Messiah or a Pariah. What I meant is that some will see him as one or the other. For example, still some people regard Nkrumah as a dictator and others as a hero, so is Rawlings and so would be others.

"why did the EC not take all the necessary steps to ensure that the signatories applied all their energies to press or write harder on the paper for their signatures to appear on every carbon copy?" As over-demanding as this complaint by my good friend Kofi Atta may sound, it does not even qualify as evidence of wrongdoing. This is an issue of poor technique which has been occuring in all our elections since 1957. I have advised that Akuffo Addo should cut and run before its too late because you can't outfox Afari Gyan on electoral issues. Its next to impossible

Should the case be ruled in favor of the defendants, Nana Akuffo Addo has nothing to apologize for and none to render apology to.Does a man exercising his constitutional right have to apologize because he lost the petition? I don't think so except perhaps in very extreme cases and it'd have to be ordered by the Supreme Court.
We were not made to be perfect. Isn't this enough motivation to seek to improve daily and constantly? It's a moral responsibility, an obligation we owe to each other, our posterity and humanity in general, to improve our legacy, what already exists and what will be.
The december elections were not perfect. Only a fool will say that. Afari Gyan and the electoral commission have never and won't ever conduct perfect elections. To borrow from President Obama's inaugural address : "We must act, knowing that our work will be imperfect." Don't we owe it as a living obligation to each other and our posterity to improve upon what is ours today?
Nana Akuffo Addo has some evidence to prove that there were some fraudulent aspects of the last elections. Whichever way the Supreme Court verdict goes Nana Akuffo Addo and his NPP colleagues deserve a pat on the back for raising our democracy a couple of notches on the democratic index. How many senseless wars have been fought in many an african nation because of disputes over elections and how many precious lives have been lost? The human loss and carnage and the ensuing economic tragedies are self inflicted and preventable.Nana chose the course of peaceful settlement, the course of civility, nobility and statesmanship instead of anarchy, chaos and war. God forbid any war and bloodshed on our soil!
Nana seems to be coasting to victory and even an unexpected loss is still a super duper victory for the petioners and democracy. Many inconsistencies and irregularities have already come to the fore and a couple more are yet to be unraveled and I'm pretty confident whichever way the SC ruling goes they will also order significant reforms that would enhance our electoral system and voting process.
I don't know about Mahama and Afari Gyan's future after the verdict, especially a guilty verdict and I'm in no position to predict anything.I leave it to Mr Kofi Atta and posterity to judge for themselves.

You may be right that whatever the outcome Nana Akufo may not have to render any apology because he was exercising his constitutional rights. Again, the petition whether successful or not will improve future elections in Ghana. You are also right to ask, what will be the fate of Mahama and Afari-Gyan should the petition be successful and would they also apologise? There are many more questions than answers.

Disagreements are not necessarily bad because they allow different people to see things in another perspective . I'm alarmed though at the level of intolerance in political discourses. As a nation we're alarmingly polarised and divided along tribal and political lines. A house, family, nation divided against itself cannot stand. It will surely fall. Scary, isn't it? Our nation needs some healing before it falls but who will facilitate that process?

Why should one go to court just to get electoral reforms. How many electoral reforms have we gone thru without the SC. Why should we waste the minds of our Sc judges on 15,000 pink sheets for flimsy reasons. The reforms must start with the NPP executives coaching their polling agents to do their work well. The executives failed their supporters woefully in this regards. You cannot cry over spilt milk and expect to be a hero

Thanks for tackling the issues and providing further insights into this matter and thus educating the public in the right directions unlike others who rely on stories without any logical analysis of the facts. Such people end up confusing and dangerously misleading the vast majority of Ghanaians who may have some shortfalls in understanding this case.
I think your analysis on the matter of signatures of Presiding Officers missed the point a bit as you tended to base your analysis on the form rather than the legality of the presiding officers signature.
The absence of the presiding officer's signature though important should not by itself nullify the votes of the polling station. If there is a doubt about the genuiness of those pink sheets, the court could call him to verify if those are the pink sheets he issued out on the polling day. An officer is human and can forget to append his signature and his lapses must not deny citizens their votes. The important signatures in terms of validity are those of the party reps at that station.
I agree with your analysis on votes without biometric registration in terms of the existing legal framework. That is if the person was recognised by all parties present to be a voter but the malfunction of the Machine could not complete his verification process. Thus if any registered voters did vote in that respect then it might be a tall order to invalidate their votes given the constitution and existing decided cases.
Lastly, I disagree that whichever way the case goes Akuffo Addo must be credited. I say so mainly on the basis that he has shown bad faith by pretending not to recognise the president as president whilst the matter is in court. The resulting tension that it creates is quite volatile and can disturb the peace and stability of this nation. If he loses which is most likely the case, then he must resign from politics particularly after his all die be die slogan which championed his campaign before the elections. By so doing he thinks he must be declared president by the court and must therefor resign from his presidential ambitions, if he fails.
