Thank you brother. Ghana should just learn from the two examples you cited in Africa, Zambia of 2012 and Nigeria of 2013 and move on without the supposed super stars Dede and Jordan. Nigeria dropped their superstars who have character flaws and practically won the 2013 AFCON with mostly players from the Nigeria local league.
Ivory Coast even with the best eleven players on any afternoon against any African team has failed worse than Ghana. Discipline, team unity and GFA stopping begging Players is the secret to winning the AFCON and we should use the 2013 Nigeria team as a template.

Keisi can never get the Black Stars coaching job, even if he wins the world cup twice he can never get a coaching job with an European team, Appiah is not getting the co-operation and respect of all the players and the reason is that the two coaches are poor Africans. If Jordan can't walk into the French team and be their number one striker, how can he blame the BLACK STARS coach for ignoring him in a single tournament. Warris has been on fire for an European team but was overlooked. The 400 years of slavery, the severe poverty, etc has affected the way others see and think about us, and has driven our confidence low. We do not get the respect we deserve because we do not respect each other. Appiah played for the Black Stars, captained the team and has been assistant coach for sometime. He is the BLACK STARS coach and deserves our support and co-operation. Secondly, do not call Abedi the greatest ever if you did not see the magic of Polo, the wizardry of Osei Kofi and the wonders of Robert Mensah, some of the guys that attracted the "big big" teams and players to the shores of Africa and knocked down walls and brought the cameras searching. Abedi played under the cameras of the world and that is why you will think he is the best ever in Ghana. Roger Milla played his best football in his late teenage years till his early thirties, but when he finally got the opportunity to play under the cameras of the world football at age 40 when he was completely off form, he was adjudged one of the best footballers in the world. Abedi is never the best footballer Ghana has produced, Those who did not see Abedi play, watch Ayew, they are similar, but if you did not see Polo, Osei Kofi and Robert Mensah, you will never see any one like them in your life time because they were smooth operators without effort, they would break down the defense no matter what. Look what Osei Kofi did to Stoke city both home and away. He did the same Flamingo, a top Brazilian team.

it's not a matter of being a former footballer that one becomes a better coach. I know one, Michel Platini, Jean Tigana, and the immediate pas french coach who were all former French national players but who woefully failed as Coaches.
Paying for one's country should be out of dedication that's all.

I doff my hat to this writer, an article worth praising. I keep saying our brethren easily jump into conclusion without digging deep into the root cause of our problems.
Ayews may be right, the coach might be right, GFA may be right in their own sense. But the key question or the underlying problem of uncommitted players featuring in the National team and what is the actual cause of that.
Before I apportion any blame to both Ayews, Appiah and GFA I would like to have simple answers to the what went wrong, when did that happened, how did that manifest and who is the brain behind such cause. Then we find solutions to these four questions and trust me we can overcome any challenges Ghana soccer is currently facing. Let's be objective in our debate and find concrete solutions. Insults would rather inflict more pain but take us nowhere.

If you ask me why the people who have brought the wheels of the Black Star's administration to a standstill have taken an entrenched position. The answer is that the Black Stars is now the Bill Board for advertising for players they want to sell to the outside world but not necessarily finding a winning team. The whole GFA guys have their own interest and not the interest of the country.

I'm not here to condemn or support the Ayews, but what I'm saying is that, as long as this particular FA remains, we will see retirements!! We will soon forget about the Ayews (or let's say, we have already forgotten that the Ayews ever existed). But we shall see retirements upon retirements as we go along. Mind you, we will remain where we are without being able to build 23 players from our 23M population until we cure the typhoid fever (GFA) that we all misdiagnose as malaria.
How is that, Mr. Nii Ayitey Tetteh?

Your article is good but do not condemn Akwasi Appiah. He has done a coaching course in England and has deputised the national team for sometime now. You guys should give him the chance and support to rebuild the team. All the guys you have mentioned are not qualified than him and can make mistakes as well. He took over a team in which all the experienced players were either injured or at their decline stage of their fooball career. No leftback and no striker. Some of his good players like Annan was injured during the Afcon tournamant yet he got to the semi finals. It could have been better though. Please, give him time to rebuild the team. It does not take a day to build a thing in which players are sppread all over. Appreciate the new talented players like Mukasso, Atsu, the local goal keeper that he has brought into the team, a reason why players like Ayew are jealous.

If you ask me if I agree with the writer, my answer will be yes and no. Yes because I agree that the whole is better than the sum of the parts. I also agree because a team is better than the component parts. But a team here is not just the players, but also the technical, the management, the supporters etc. The coach, the FA and the players are just not in synche. If you give the players of Barcelonia to Kwesi Appiah, he cannot qualify Ghana to the world cup. He just doesn't have it in him as a coach. No because I believe stars make up good teams. Three weeks ago, Tottenham Hotspurs beat Intertionale 3-0 in London. Three days ago, Internationale after the first half also led Tottenham 3-0. The match ended 4-1 and 1-4 on aggregate. The difference between the Tottenham team which played in London and the one which played at the San Sro was Gareth Bale. Stars make a difference. True we need committed players, and this is something Dede has never lacked. So why single him out for blame? On Jordan Ayew, can we objectively say that all the strikers sent to South Africa for AFCON were better than him? At any rate why have the those strikers, except Asamoah Djan been dropped? So Ghana needs a good technical bench, a good FA and committed players to excel. What we have at the moment is not a team but a sum of different components.

We have no Technical Bench. The writer himself has said we need a coach who "picks players for footballing reasons". Players like Derek Boateng, Clottey, Kissi Boateng are a waste. Pantsil is too old. Kwadjo Asamoah is off color. Jerry Akaminko is no defender. He invites players into the team to try them only for between 2 and 10 mins in a match and then he doesnt invite them again. That's no brainer!!!
Forget about Ghana if this dumb coach is till in charge. We were excited about the team till he was appointed. What a disappointment!!

Akwasi Appiah has been the Assist Coach for the Black Star for some years. What was the results for his first match? 7-0.Jordan Ayew never played for any of the younger teams but Akwasi Appiah invited him straight into the Black Stars. The current Black Stars are in a building process as Appiahs,Essiens,Mensahs etc are leaving the scene. You people should not fault the coach.Who knew Christian Atsu? Renowned coaches loose matches and Rome was not built in a day.If the Ayews have retired from the Stars let them go.Nobody is bigger than the Black Stars. There are more footballers like the Frimpongs who are itching to play for the Stars.Don't force a player who is not prepared to play into any game.I have been a footballer before so I know what am saying. Your beautiful analysis boils down to a number of great points: (1) the whole will always be greater than the individual parts as far as soccer and most group endeavors are concerned. (2) Dicipline and the willingness to build teams that can survive the test of selflessness and national pride are important. (3) Football administration in Ghana should do better to run on informed systems and procedures regardless of personalities. (4) Make use of the wisdom of Ghana's celebrated soccer stars and administrators where indicated. (5) I might add as well that Ghana should always be looking towards succession planning, building opportunities for newer stars - Ayews and all other stars will see the twilight of their various soccer careers, and the Black Stars of Ghana will continue to shine brightly in the African skies and indeed in the greater cosmos. This is why your very apt tile for your article " much Ayews about nothing" is very much on point. Great piece Nii Ayitey. Mo ob) M)d3n.
