A good and thoughtfully written one. This feeble voice on the Ghanaweb must be able to penetrate even the solid walls of the castle at Osu. Hopefully somebody is also listening from the Flag Staff House.

Without doubt, many of these mentally challenged persons have invaded cyberspace too, Ghanaweb in particular, judging from the odious things expressed here. Urgent action needed!

Dr Agyapong, you letter is really pertinent and very sad reading. Mahama and the NDC government only believes in rhetoric but no follow through action.
Their inaction is a characteristic of their governance. They think governance is a matter of occupying positions and amassing wealth.
What are the ministers doing? Are they not aware of all these problems facing the country? You talk to a minister and can blatantly tell you I cannot solve all of Ghana's problems, hence they only walk through the problems till their term of office expires.
These so-called leaders lack vision, they don't understand management in practice as most of them were in their first management or leadership roles and have no experience and exposure to deal with issues.
The ministers and their ministries don't deliver because there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM IN PLACE TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR INCOMPETENCIES AND LACK OF DELIVERY.
Very sad for Ghanaians. Are we getting the leaders we deserve?

have we not posed the questions and points you have made? what is happening is the negative impact of appointing out of college boys with no depth of practical hands on experience of the roles they have been appointed to. They will spend four years and tax payers' monies to learn on the job and this is not the most efficient way to run a business or on a larger scale a country.
In recruiting these people what happened to ticking off boxes in the job description, that is assuming there was one and the appointments were based on them.
What we are witnessing is what is described as the POLITICS OF POVERTY. Some People are in politics because they are failures as individuals and consider politics as a quick way of enriching themselves through corruption and bribes; the welfare of the people was never the motive.
I think the criteria for standing for office should include, among other things those who have proved to be successful in their areas of endeavour or expertise, people who own their own houses, etc. people whose cvs show they have done that type of work before (especially for ministerial positions, board members, departmental leaders)

It is important that some things are clarified. Firstly, I want to commend the Doctor for writing to remind the President about his promise concerning his vision for the Mental health setup.
FRedsaid, I think you are looking at two different things here -- experience and expertise. The problem we have as Ghanaians has never been one of expertise or experience. I do not think that if you have the money as an individual to build a house (I use one of your examples), you would need any of the two. You would only have to employ the services of those with these qualities we are talking about here. This is the same for everything. The problem that Ghana our beloved nation has faced all these years starting from when we had our independence from the colonial masters has never been about any of the two I have mentioned. We have people with these two qualities in abundance, but the problem has always been greed, dishonesty, selfishness, unpatriotism, self-centredness and what have you. This has been the biggest problem and it will continue to be if we as people do not decide to call it quits and start to LOVE our dear nation and the citizens to want to do something for the benefit of everyone. Therefore, it does not necessarily matter who is put in what position; if you have the LOVE of the nation and its citizen at heart, the right things will be done to help all. This is why even a medical officer can successfully fuction in the position of a chief of staff; it is management and vision but above all, LOVE.
I am therefore humbly using this medium to call upon all Ghanaians and anyone reading this who has been fortunate enough to get any mantle of leadership NOT to think of themselves first BUT the country and its citizens. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN DO TO BETTER THE LIVES OF YOUR OWN FELLOW COUNTRYMEN AND THE NATION and NOT WHAT YOU CAN LOOT TO ENRICH YOURSELF TO THE DETRIMENT OF ALL AS SOME WICKED ONES AMONGST US HAVE ALREADY DONE -- look at the misery, deprevity, degradation and the state OBUASI where GOLD has been mined for over a good century is in. Peoplpe do not have conscience; they forget that today they live but tomorrow they are gone.
God bless any well-meaning Ghanaian and our dearly-loved motherland Ghana.
