As Christian and God-fearing a nation as we profess to be, I am amazed at the level of corruption reported in the country. All we have to do is to follow the ten commandments and the country would be fine. I guess we are human in deed. We hate laws. We could not abide by a single rule --"Do not eat from the fruit of this tree." How then would any one expect us to abide ten rules, let alone a whole huge national constitution.

Corruption comes in various forms and shapes but in Ghana they always end up having monetary value linkages. When tribalism and nepotism becomes the one qualification needed for national job postings via politics and political parties they become linked to exchange of money for services not rendered at some point. When political party affiliation (in Ghana party memberships are clearly aligned with tribal lineage) is the driver for obtaining job with the national government and not competence, the rewards from employment and political connection is still money. Obtaining money without justifiable work or services is still stealing monetary resource. In Ghana there is nothing that is done for love of a person, community or country but for the love of money. To not know these simple truths is to be a mindless Ghanaian or ex-Ghanaian.

Rule of Law in America only applies to the rich and powerful. The CIA spies on the Senate. The Wall Street thieves get a big bailout at the back of the people yet none of those criminals see a day in jail. The government spies on every one in the country against the constitution. If you think Ghana has something to learn from the U.S then you are delusional. Ghana is retrogressing because some of you assume the American way is exemplary. What happened to Cheney and Halliburton when they bribed Nigerian officials? That was against U.S law but nothing happened. Give us a break with this kid write up.

The system for fighting corruption in the USA is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but that's not enough reason to excuse the do-nothing attitude of state institutions in Ghana. No one expects perfection from ghanaians but we're doing nothing for God's sake. If we can at least do one half of what the US and other advanced nations do in regard to fighting corruption we will be in a far better shape. We can even go a step further learning the best practices everywhere and not just from the USA. What we cannot do is throw our hands up in the air and refuse to do something. Mediocrity has been our bed fellow for far too long.

Dr. Micheal J.K. Bokor we all watched last week when the U.S. President, Barack Obama give award to some Negroes who served in Viet Nam and were not awarded like their fellow white citizens because in 1975 Negroes in the U.S. were considered to be animals less than the white man's dog.
You mean to say that socioeconomic discrimination against people just because of the colour of their skin. Supporting fascist, apartheid and Zionist regimes is not corruption. Corruption is defined by an American Dictionary to be the act of corruption or the state of being corrupt, moral perversion, depravity, putrefactive, decay rottenness, Bribery perversion of integrity and lies.
In 1966 the U.S. government bribed some military and police officers to overthrow the government of the CPP led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and that is corruption.
The U.S. involvement in Afghanistan where it goes to protect the opium market is corruption. Policies under which opposition members can visit the US president and tell him lies which are used to overthrow presidents elected under the process of universal adult suffrage is the most corrupt thing that anybody can do. The military intervention in Iraq was full of corruption. The Hugo Chavez videos, Syrian chemical bomb issue which were acts done by the US, just to mention few are all full of corruption.
The most corrupt government in the world in the U.S. because it has the power to protect and enforce its corrupt acts. The neocolonial system is in itself corruption. Dr. Michael Bokor on this point you are totally wrong. You raised an empty sack knowing well that it can not stand.

You are off at a tangent regarding the import of what Dr. Borkor has written. The thrust of his article is fighting corruption in the USA not it's global activities . The USA has global interests to protect and will do all it can to protect them and so do other advanced nations . The problem with Ghana is there are no laws to help reduce corruption . They have laws to punish small time criminals like goat and chicken thieves , these laws are religiously implemented with stiff penalties ( in some cases 20 years in jail.) but not with stealing gov't money or receiving bribes. Have you ever heard of anybody going to jail for soliciting bribe ? That is what Dr. Borkor is talking about. What a nation.

Are you serious describing democracy in America as the best?Democracy in America is oligarchical democracy which allows only the rich and powerful to get to the top of politics. The lobbying system also makes it a corrupt political system which lines the pockets of members of the senate and congress with millions of dollars. And you have forgotten about the starvation wages being paid to so many workers in America almost turning America into a sweat shop nation.Delve deep into why certain countries are poor in the world and you will realize that exploitation of their resources, especially oil by America has made them poorer.Typical examples are what Libya was before Gaddafi came to power and how Venezuela was before Chavez took over power.

Kwabena, everyone by nature aspires to improve his or her situtaion or status - financially, socially, economically, basic freedom and equality. That is what the US Democracy is all about.
Humans as we are, we were not "created equal". The reason being that you may be born poor, with a different color or ven from a particular tribe or race and these attributes may stack against you in the quest for the goals that I mention.
In the US, institutions have been set up to ensure, facilitate and protect these goals irrespective of these attributes; it may not be perfect.
You may note that the "more equal" people do already have edges above and all you need to do is focus and work on becoming part of the "more equal" within the democratic sense.
In the examples that you gave for Libya and Venezuela, only a select and few could be approved to be "more equal" by the the powers that be. As a way to keep the "not equal" in check, propaganda which demonizes the "more equal" in the West are used to make them feel that it is okay to lack and stay in one's situtation. Do you know how flamboyant Ghaddafi's sons lived?. Meanwhile, innocent people could not even mention the name of Ghaddafi in certain normal contexts. Take our own Ghana. 20 years ago, no one in Ghana could say that Rawlings was this or that. Thru the dispensation of democracy, we now can make comments on Mahama without any fear. In both eras, there was and is corruption. At least, I am free to say so but couldn't say so 20 years back. I would have been made to vanished.
I will die for Democracy than to live in the shadows of Ghaddafi and Chavez and not having the freedom to better myself.

Also they steal from the estates of deceased people they write WILLS for and the legal system is not able to punish them and they are still practicing in the county is not only a waste of judicial bench but a shame to the legal system in Ghana. Greed and corruption is why Africa will forever remain poor.

For those of you who do not know what our dear friend is talking about in regards to how corruption is dealt with in the US,Ghana will be far better if just half of the institutional practice in the US are emulated where you will even account for campaign money and how it was spent.
