And if anything,I believe Nana Addo took a calculated risk by allowing him[Jake] to be closely tied to his coat-tails.
Nana should have realized the 'Journeyman`s' status of this guy guy,and distanced himself from a lot of the 'baggage' Jake generated wherever he went: Staduim disasater fund;the beautification of the national capital; and his tendency to think about himself, first and foremost, in everthing he did. He is even lucky to have garned the 66 votes he most certainly got from the numerous hangers-on he created at the NPP headquarters!

The fact of the matter is that there has been a shift in NPP political thinking which could not bode well for Akuffo Addo. The conclusion which you arrive at and disagreed with can only come from an attitude of a hypocrite for refusing to call a spade a spade perhaps for diplomatic reasons or just to wade off the NPP formidable attack on people who tell unpleasant truths about them and their leaders.
The shift in the NPP should be a cause for concern for people in the inner circle of the Akuffo camp and instead of being economical with the truth and pretending that nothing really is happening, will be a disservice to Akuffo Addo and his ambitions.
I would think that the developments in the party recently and the out come of the parties elections had undermined the brand and institution Akuffo and his authority. His grip on the party is now a thing of the past and these are indication that the party is gradually weaning itself from a one man grip.If I were Akuffo this will be the right time to call it of in a dignified way.

Kofi, I agree with you and those who state that NPP national executive elections could be interpreted as Nana losing his grip on the Party at the national level. I also agree that Nana, even with this development, is still the odds on favorite to win the nomination to be the party's presidential candidate. This does not necessarily make him the best candidate to take on the NDC's candidate (most certainly the current President), but that is different topic, certainly for, another day.
Two years is still eternity in politics. With that said, unless those who seek to replace Nana this time round, do some serious groundwork, dislodging him from his current position/strength in the party will not be easy. I personally see others giving Nana a ride for his money this time, I still believe, though, that he wins a nomination fight, given the current mood at the grassroot level.

KOfi,
I believe you answered your own question with your analysis of Jake's background. Nana Akufo-Addo had no alternative but to work with Jake at all levels, as Party Chairman. However, Nana Akufo-Addo and Paa Kwesi Nduom are probably two GHainaian politicians that cannot be fairly painted with the proverbial "corruption brush."
In view of Kennedy Agyapong's revelations, for instance, even if monies donated "were diverted into other things" without the knowledge of the rest of the party hierarchy why should Nana continue to openly align with Jake?
Besides, with all the nonesense of the NPP being and Akan party, don't you think any serious contender within the party would have welcome the election of Afoko?
Lastly, we tend to downplay the intelligence of party, (especially NPP) delegates. Do you sincerely believe that the grassroots of the party completely absolve Jake and Sir John for the outcome of Election 2012 and its aftermath? I don't think so.
Mr Afoko will do well to listen to the opinions of the grassroots of the party and begin to build a very serious "Polling Station Organisation." That is where the real battle lines are drawn, not the "big people" in the cities who are trying so hard to stab each other's back!
