He's come to for the sake of his stomach, his family. He sees the rest of us as garbage. Daddy Lumba's "Yentie Obiaa", which Mahama is allegedly known to have fallen in love with, is a clear, good testimony. His utterances, body language, actions speak volumes: to hell with Ghanaians. The same people who gave him the mandate to rule? But all will soon be over. Whatever goes up, certainly comes down, the saying goes. We'll kick him out like a World Cup football, in 2016. That's when he'll see his "smoothness levels". A catch phrase originating from Kwesi Pratt, describing the magnitude of Konadu Agyemang Rawlings' imminent defeat, when she announced her intention to challenge late Prof Mills for the NDC presidential slot, in the run-up to the 2008 general elections. When all is said and done, I think Ata, Kofi, your articles are so edifying.

MASSA KOFI, given that traditionally, Kumasi is a staunch NPP stronghold, and against the backdrop of recent criticism of President Mahama's leadership and his NDC Government by some high ranking NPP members during the party's rallies in Kumasi, clearly, Mahama's comments were political insinuation. Whether, President Mahama's "language" was an attempt at charging his NDC supporters in Kumasi or addressing the Nation, such pronouncements are petty, politically divisive and inappropriate. The language and antics in Kumasi are beneath the dignity of the Office that he occupies.

President JDM is displaying all the signs of immaturity in the highest office of the land. His public utterances, traced to his days in parliament, all point to someone who unguardedly does not choose his words carefully before he speaks; remember the insults at NPP etc.? How does he describe the way the people of Volta Region vote? Yet the NDC supporters as expected, have risen in unison to defend the indefensible and have now enlisted the support of the Ghana police CID. Time will tell, JDM, please grow up!! For God's sake, you are the president of Ghana and not president for NDC.

The poor Ghanaian taxpayer has been pouring billions into peacekeeping in his backyard because of stupid wars. They then turn round and complain about lack of development. Can any Akan politician say they are ungrateful or that his region is "Peacekeeping Headquarters?"
Mahama talks as if the money that is used for projects in Ghana comes from his father's goat and cow ranches. This is backward thinking from the 1950s CPP propaganda "Osagyefo says we should bring these books to your children, Osagyefo says we should dig this well for you, Osagyefo says..."
Pathetic clowns!

Regardless of whether one is with his party members or not, as a sitting president you should talk as a national figure rather than a party member. Unguarded words spoken by Nana Addo and Romney both presidential hopefuls to their party folks contributed to their losses. The phenomenon he described is true in each party's stronghold so no need to say it -- for instance we don't expect the Northerner to demonstrate and condemn GYEEDA/SAD rot or folks in the Volta region to condemn JJ for insignificant developments in the Volta region for precisely the same reasons. You won't get Obama make that mistake in any red state -- he is even more on his guard when in those states.

Kofi,
I am not the least convinced by your arguments at all. I shall be brief though in debunking you.
First, you admit that his statement was doctored by some mischievous person/s in order to give a different and wrong interpretation to what the President said. That alone is proof that his authentic statement was not the problem but just a factual statement reflecting what you yourself says is the case in multi-party systems, with the slant that some will not vote for you irrespective of what you have done as a govt. True, but that is quite different from not appreciating what you have done, which is the President's beef. Two different scenarios. Your argument is thus a fallacy and hence invalid.
2. It is a fact that party members in Ghana tend to totally poo-poo the achievement of opponents, and even stop laudable projects once they took over power. It was high time someone high profile like the President drew attention to that. It is not divisive pointing out that some have such a blinkard view of opponents efforts. You want to pretend that such a division does not exist, that the emperor is not naked! It is therefore totally acceptable to me what the President actually said what he said. Indeed, some NPP would have said: after all, it is our gold. I had personally heard what they had to say about JJ's devts effort in Kumasi in particular - after all, it is our money he is using, blah! blah! bla!
3. His statement does not include all the people of Kumasi, as the real miscfief makers tried to do. Yes, it does not include those who voted for the NDC, including the increased voters that you mentioned. You claiming that the President was ungrateful to those segment of the resident of Kumasi who led to the increased votes of the NDC is thus neither here nor there. The President simply took a direct jab at the segment who DO NOT APPRECIATE whatever govt does.
Gotta go. Working.

Andy, on the first point my argument is not fallacious and invalid, when you agreed with me that irrespective whatever one does as a political leader, there would be people/voters who would never vote for that leader. Tell me, how many political opponents genuinely admit or appreciate what their opponents have done? Even when they do there is often a caveat. Just tell me if Republicans appreciate some of Obama's achievements including Obamacare? That is politics, that is life.
Regarding your second point, I am sure readers will bear me out that I have written about the polarisation of Ghanaian society and politics along lines of NDC/NPP. It is therefore not accurate for you to say that I want to pretend that such division does not exist. In fact, it was precisely for the divisions in Ghana that I am of the view that the president should not used language that could be misinterpreted as being divisive but language that unites the people and country.
Yes, in the authentic tape the president did not make mention of all Kumasi residents. In fact, he said "some people". I am back to the question of the President accepting that whatever he does as President, there are some Ghanaians who will never appreciate him. That is a fact of life and particularly in politics and the President must accept it. He is not alone and it happened to Nkrumah, Busia, Acheampong, Rawlings, Kufuor and Mills. It also happens in the UK, US, France, Germany, Canada, South Africa, Nigeria, etc.

Kofi, why should any President expect appreciation especially if they construct roads or pave the airport runaway as Mahama said he has done in Kumasi?
He as a President is paid to do just that and the money used to accomplish those projects is not from his personal accounts. Taxpayers pay taxes and expect their taxes to be used for developmental projects and Dramani Mahama should not expect anybody to sing his praises.
It is just like me and you asking our Bosses to appreciate us for doing our work we are paid to do.

Of course, you disagreed with me but that doesn't prove you right.
Yes, whatever you do, some people will disagree with some of the things you do. If they disagree with ALL that you do, all the time, then it is abnormal and must be tackled, not accepted, as you seem to suggest. Can it be one is doing things wrong all the time, or some observers are just obdurant against people?
Obamacare is a bad example to give. There are many things Obama is doing Rep. appreciate and support.
The fact that you had written about the schism in Ghana and about the NDC/NPP divide doesn't negate the fact that you in this case is advocating a position which perpetuates such a division by not talking about it. The brouhaha was not caused by what Mahama actually said but the distortion of that by some malevolent people. Those are the people you must direct you concern to.
As I was in a hurry, I didn't mention that we have heard heard President Kufour and other NPP stalwarts remarked even if the NPP chose the late Maj. Quashigah, as a presidential candidate, the NPP wouldn't win the majority of votes in the VR! We in the VR didn't run amok at such a wise observation; a truism, just as much as what President Mahama spoke against and the lynch mob is after him. What's the difference? Substitute that for gold paved roads. So I wonder what exactly Sarpong is insinuating with his insults. Whose bigotry?
Perhaps, he didn't see my blockbuster of yesterday and read that I've called time off on such insults, as there shall be dire consequences in the future for such insults. "These Akans" shall not have the prerogative to continue insulting others ANYMORE!

Your analysis and reasoning suck big time. The president of Ghana is the head of a political party who lives and operates in a real Ghana not in an ideal Ghana of principled citizens. Your argument and that of many others made against the president and his NDC party in the past and present presupposes the NDC and NPP are constituted by people free from tribal loyalties and or party animus and or a Ghana voting public well informed on issues prior to going to the polls each election cycle. You and others are wrong on both counts.
You cannot cite just five (5) instances over the past 6-years in Kumasi or the entire Ashanti region where an NPP member, foot-soldier status or in NPP leadership who has said or given credit for any NDC initiative, action or proposal. I can give you multiple examples of the hypocritical, unprincipled and abject lies that have circulated, spewed and accepted as truths by the people in Kumasi and in the larger Ashanti region. It was Ashanti region or Kumasi specifically, for instance the NPP leadership incited people in Kumasi not to participate in an NHIS scheme the NPP and Kufour touted for all the political marbles; that should tell you facts about Kumasi NPP ideology. I am also sure he read or heard about the NPP ploy to accuse Asiedu Nketia, Gen Mosquito, of stealing funds to build a house in Kumasi that was a fabrication no child with a class one reading skills would believe but was bought by the Kumasi NPP brain-dead diehards. You cannot pretend the majority of the people in Kumasi are not NPP members or sympathizers just as you cannot pretend that in democracy majority actions carries the day. Where then did Mahama go wrong if the majority in Kumasi are card-carrying NPP members or sympathizers and engage in acts of the proverbial hawk in president Mahama’s proverb?
