Some folks in Ghana are still living in the 18th Century.Chieftaincy was relevant before the introduction of the system of government in the Gold Coast, and the abolition of the Slave Trade. In this 21st Century - where meritocracy is the core of democratic institutions - this antiquated, parasitic, useless and divisive chieftaincy institutiion should be abolished,as in India,Nepal and Ethiopia.
Chieftaincy in Africa is partly to blame for the relentless ethnic, political and religious conflicts, and violence on the continent.Just checkout the millions spent by the government to quel the violence in the north since Rawlings' administration. Money that could have been used to build infrastructure in the area. Also, witness the money spent on chieftaincy litigations all over the country.
Chieftaincy is not relevant in this age and the earlier we dumped it unto the trash heap of history, the better it would be for Ghana and Africa. Just because some folks' ancestors headed militias and armies that burned down villages and towns - and either killed or captured the inhabitants to be sold into slavery -does not mean we have to call them ROYALS. My foot!
(By the way, yours truly is also from a so-called "royal" family but supports MERITOCRACY. Though it is counterintuitive, but that's the truth).
Change the Constitution. Abolish chieftaincy.

The traditional persons especially of Northern background are naturally peaceful.
Thus, built-in measures existed for settling disputes. However, when people such as Awal got educated, you turned to House of Chiefs and law courts for settling minor disputes. Because of your money and education, you can hire lawyers, write articles and organize press conferences to worsen the crises.
Until the educated persons such as you (Awal)learn to settle disputes at Bimbilla, no govt (whether NDC or NPP) will come there to perform magic to solve your problems.
Have you heard of the ethnic groups in the south killing each other because of chieftaincy disputes?
We are fed up with you people and your problems.

It's a wonderful and educative peace but the fact of the issue is that,Ghanaians are lazy.

The reason why Alhaji salifu Dawuni was a marteinal grandson of the Gbugmayili is that his Grandmother was a woman called Nabii Kasuwa the dorter of Nakpaanaa Nagkurli and his grandfather was a slave in the parlice his name was Awushi kuame he was taking care of the horses of the King and the reason why Nabii Kasuwa fell in love with the slave was that she was having incurable wound on leg and he (the slave)
Was treating her and in that process he impregnated her and run away out of fears that they might kill so when Nabii Kasuwa gave birth to Dawuni (the father of Alhaji salifu), Nakpaanaa Nagkurli gave him to his brother Nabiyong Dahmani so Lipuhinaa Dawuni was not the son of Nabiyong Dahmani. But rather the son of Awushi kuame. So Alhaji salifu Dawuni's grandfather is Awushi kuame
