This is what you did not thinks about if I understand you well,
1 many community survives on the volta river for drinking, pumping sea water in there is like man slaughter, 2. The power you would need to run these big pumps would equal or surpass that the Akossonbo turbines can generate, 3. The cost of the installation can build another power plant of renewable type

Well, I had the opportunity to work with the VRA for a short while and a similar argument, to pump water into the dam, with an engineer arose. But I countered it saying the power required to pump water from the tailing will be far more than what you`ll produce for a quantity of water - since you need to work against gravitational force and frictional force to pump the water up into the dam - in fact you need to have a machine with an efficiency greater than 100%, an impossibility. Likewise seawater, you have to lift it into the dam, meaning expending energy. However, it will be worthy for the VRA to mobilise resources to research into this possibilities where one will use less power to pump water into the dam than will be produced. Mr. Anokye should understand that the water that goes into the sea from Kpong Dam, if part is harvested back into the dam will be even better than pumping seawater into the dam. Of course the seawater will affect the ecosystem in the dam and before you realise, environmental protectionist will sue the state. I first heard this political argument from the late Dan Lartey arguing strongly that it is just a matter of pumping water back into the dam to fill the reservoir. I couldn`t laugh since I am a student of Fluid Dynamics.
We have more than enough of renewable natural resources to generate power. I believe it is a matter of political will that can get us there. Even septic tanks in our communities can harnessed and generate power and gas for cooking!!!!

MAN was created not to live by drinking seawater. How then does seamen on board a ship drinks water when they are short of fresh water but still at sea top?The sodiuom /salt is taking out through filters and sieves before before human consumption even though, not all that tasty as fresh water, and also the same filted sea water can be used to cool the engines.

This is a cockamamie idea from Mr. Kofi Anokye. He should tell us which part of the world has made use of his "brilliant but simple idea".
Mr. Anokye does not know that aquatic organisms - animals and plants - can't tolerate salty water. And the water to be pumped from the sea is salty, while the water bodies in Ghana are all fresh water. Pumping sea water into the Volta river, will kill off the fresh water organisms that have adapted to living in fresh water ecosystems.
Besides, pumping salty water from marine ecosystem - the sea from the Gulf of Guinea
intio the Akosombo Dam will lead to the corrosion of the expensive turbines. It is not worth it, folks.
However, the sea can help to end our energy crisis - dumsor-dumsor:
1. We can generate electricity from ocean tides.
Please, go to Google and search how to ocean tides to generate electric power.
2. We can build off shore wind turbines to utilize the gusts of winds that blow unceasingly from the sea.
Our experts need to spend time studying and researching how to use renewables to generate electricity.
Dumsor didn't start this year.
Our engineers in our universities must start studying and researching how to use renewables to generate electricity.
We are learning the hard way that it does not make sense to rely on only one way of producing electric power.
