I was not, in the least, surprised his constituents turfed him out in last year's party parliamentary. primaries.

If I may ask, what institution present or past have Africans maintained to its logical workable state? Zilch!!! We Africans take systems and institutions that the white man has over the years have refined and perfected, and we add our blackness to them and destroy them all.
Let us look at our counterparts in Asia and other parts of the world. They say no system or institution is perfect and it is true. Because the brains in Asia do not want to re-invent the wheel, they take the same systems and institutions in the west, and tweak (modify) them to meet their needs. Ghana's contemporaries, Singapore, Malaysia, and the subcontinent India, not to mention South Korea, read the same economics, science, and political science books authored by the west, and deduced from it what they need to improve the lives of their people. Have Africans sat down to think of what is ailing the Ghana and the continent?
Now here is my point, May 28 will be exactly 41 years since ECOWAS came into existence in Lagos. Here are the goals it set at inception: 1) to create a common economic market; has it been achieved? Not a chance. 2) create a single currency for the member states; this is the most comical of all the goals. How do these fools expect a single currency when not one economy in the region is performing? 3) create a West African parliament; a West African Parliament? 4) create economic and social councils; 5) and create a court of justice. These jokers would meet every year to wine and dine at the expense of the poor 15 member states.
For those who don't know, the funny thing is that these jokers copied and pasted the European Economic Community ideals word for word. These dumb heads couldn't have come up with those ideals from scratch - they stole from the Euro zone. This explains why they have not been able to implement any goals.
Don't waste your time, my friend! Think of Ghana first.

The democratic underpinning is a good start, but we must push ahead and establish "ECOWAS" Institutions such as universities, common currency - monetary zone - , hospitals, transportation systems renewable energy systems, military command like the erstwhile ECOMOG, telecommunications systems, innovative agricultural setups, futurible centre; and make sure that sustainability is part & parcel of all ECOWAS activities. All actualized with funding from the governments of the subregion.
Minuah Yeboah, because of past failures shouldn't preclude us from trying to make ECOWAS reality.

It should be of concern to you and every ethnocentric African like myself, the continuous recidivism of the failure of African institutions. You have no basis for your optimism, and I am surprised that after 41 years of the inception of ECOWAS with nothing to show for, you are still hanging your hat on another African boondoggle.
There are two widely held schools of thought in nation building: 1) The Lee Kwan Yew model; and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah model. The Lee Kwan Yew model advocates committing all resources to develop your country first before turning your attention to regional cooperation. Under this model, the development of one country in the region will have a ripple effect on other countries and they would want to emulate the developed country. If you want the proof, check out the Asian Tigers - South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It started with Hong Kong in mid-1950s, and by the 1990s all four countries had developed into advanced and high-income economies, specializing in areas of competitive advantage.
Another cogent example of Lee Kwan Yew model is, Ghana's own independence in 1957. Our independence opened a floodgate for many African countries to come to Ghana to learn how to overthrow the colonial powers that ruled the continent. Many countries from Nigeria to Mozambique learned from us. The same principle would apply had Ghana made a headway in economic development. These African countries that looked to Ghana for their political emancipation would undoubtedly have looked to Ghana once again for economic emancipation. The Lee Kwan Yew model is tested and true.
Contrast it to Nkrumah's grandiose African Unity model - where money and resources meant for Ghana's development was whimsically spent extravagantly on many ungrateful Africans. Ghana, Guinea, Mali was a bum so is ECOWAS and AU. Absolutely useless!!! The Akans say, show me who you shit with and I will tell you how big your fart is.
Good night my friend.

And you are telling me that after all this years of failures and hardships, we are so daft that we can't learn from our mistakes?
We can craft a New Democratic ECOWAS that is sustainable & future-oriented.
