Repugnant, you have chosen a very good pseudo for yourself. Because you are indeed repugnant and very stupid for thanking the authour of this stupid article ! You seem to be a semi-literate who doesn't understand why Ghana had to be a republic to be completely free from British neocolonialism. The man you are thanking doesn't understand the issues at stake at the time Ghana was declared a Republic by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkkrumah. Ofui !!

There has never been a link between democracy and republic by definition. The definition of republic is a "state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them; any body of persons viewed as a commonwealth; a state in which the head of government is not a monarch or other hereditary head of state." Facts on the ground in Ghana is that the more we talk to make ourselves look good or convince ourselves that what took place in 1966 was right the more stupid and retarded we sound and look. The greatest democracy and war machine on earth, the USA, has come to realize the folly of transplantation of democracy; it is not suitable in every nation. The USA and UK tried installing democracy in Afghanistan and Iraq and with all of the world's resources at their behest continue to fail. Is any nation more adept with democracy than the USA and UK? Because of tribal loyalties, Ghana like Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, the majority of Muslim nations and all of Africa require strong men who can force coexistence amongst tribes. In the absence of such leaders we get to live with the kind of delusional democracy we have in Ghana, Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, South Africa and all the others who pretend they are democratic. In industrialized civilized nations there exist licensure for a host of professions because people get hurt or die in the absence of regulations. So why must the world tolerate nations toying with democracy, communism and others when people die at the hands of those who pretend to know and understand systems of governance that are foreign to everything they know and lived?
What did Nkrumah do in Ghana that has not been done by the great democracies of the world and or by every government we have had in Ghana since 1966? Is it corruption? Is it dictatorship? Is it the use or misuse of the legislature or the courts? We are where we are in Ghana because we choose to live a lie; we have convinced ourselves and others that making Nkrumah the boogie man will justify why we are still backwards, why we continue to cook and sell food to the public around gutters overflowing with stench or people using anywhere they can find as toilet facilities or struggle with electricity or have failed to wean ourselves of foreign aid and handout or from corruption. These are not things that came to Ghana care of Nkrumah. We are a nation of misfits who will not know Jesus is amongst us in disguise because we look for something that fits the mold of our slave masters. In Canada and the USA Natives (American Indians) still live in camps called tribal land, in the world over abused and misused minorities still live below those who make the laws and rule with no exception not in Brazil, Mexico and other far East nations. In Ghana being dumb is honored by NPP and NDC alike so selling everything to other nations under the false notion that we need effective management is the fad; oh how dumb and foolish can we be. America dies not blame it's high rates of murder and incarcerations on the British they take responsibility for social problems yet here we are some 40+ years after Nkrumah left Ghana and every dinwit has a right to blame Nkrumah for their failed existence and failed state we gladly accepted as the coming of a promised land.

It is amazing how ignorance and utmost stupidity have clouded out cognition in Ghana, only to be replaced by pseudo intellectual pomposity, meaning those who put themselves out there as knowing what they are saying, in most cases do not have a clue of the subject they write about.
This article is an example of the blind leading the blind in the godforsaken Ghana. We see this all the time on Ghanaweb, a forum for the uninitiated.
Here are the facts if this bozo had done his research:
1) When Ghana declared independence on 6th March 1957, The Queen of England was still the head of state, and all Bills passed in Ghana's legislature were to receive a royal accent (the Queen's signature) before it became law. This in fact made Ghana's independence de jurie and not de facto, because even though Ghana had declared independence, power was still vested in the Queen of England, she could refuse to give accent to Bills drafted in Ghana Parliament that was not in the best interest of Great Britain.
2) Kwame Nkrumah did not get up on July 1, 1960 and declared Ghana a Republic, or neither did he consult with all citizens nor stakeholders before declaring Ghana a Republic.
On April 27, 1960, A Constitutional Referendum was held for the sole purpose of changing Ghana's status from a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as head of state, to a republic with a presidential system of government. There were two questions on the ballot box: 1) vote Yes if you want Ghana to be a Republic; and vote Yes if you want Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to be your president. The other referendum question was: vote No if you want Ghana to remain a a monarchy under Queen Elizabeth II; and vote No if you want Queen Elizabeth to remain the head of state of Ghana.
There were 2,008,651 voters registered for the referendum, and the Yes side won by 88.47% as against No side 11.53%. It was a massive win for Kwame Nkrumah who was then the incumbent Prime Minister. On July 1, 1960, Dr. Nkrumah became the head of state (President of Ghana) replacing Governor-General William Hare, who was the Queen's representative.
Ghana's Republic is no fluke, it was won in a ballot box, these idiots in government who kowtow to chiefs should all go back to school to learn our history, because there too many buffoons in Ghana. The stupid Ghana media is to blame when they describe Asantehene or Akyemhene as monarchs. If these idiots and bastards in the media have brains and know our history, they will dare not refer to chiefs, especially Asantehene as a monarchy.
Ghana is a Republic and as a republic, supreme power is vested in the people and their elected representatives in Parliament. A Republic state and a monarchy cannot co-exist in any country and buffoons in the media who mix the two political systems are backward and uninitiated.

@Kobina Yeboah, by describing the article as a case of "the blind leading the blind", I find it very difficult to excuse you as one of the blind. Probably you skipped most part of the long article to jump to your conclusions. Almost everything you said was touched on by the article and the conclusions were the same. On the case before us all, you are either a monarchies or a republican. I've chosen long ago not to react to responses to my articles after putting them into the public domain. Sorry I made this exception because you appeared to be interested in rechoeing history than siding with republicanism or monarchist. It is again unfair for you to blame the journalists for calling a spade a spade. What do you want them to call tribal leaders who are assuming their position by heriditary and royal affinity, than monarchs? Pls, state your position and expect others to judge you as well.
