It's a great shame that we Ghanaians are rapidly deteriorating in how we pass on information & communicate with each other; increasingly becoming loose cannon in our miseducated effort to make a living, or to show off. BERNARD is a case in point:
"Loose Weight" is a way for him to advertise to make a living. He doesn't care as long as he is reaching his equally ignorant target.
The truth is the whole nation needs to make conscious effort to reexamine our moribund educational system, especially how we are educating our young ones.

For example, a scientist say 'use 1 milligram (0.001 g) NaCl but a technologist use 1 microgram (0.000 001 g). Will the expected results be obtained?

We are still dwelling on this CHEW, POUR, PASS AND FORGET cycle of regurgitating of someone else's 'lingo' on a piece of paper for grades; and expect to develop as a nation? And for that matter, AFRICA?
The individual who REGURGITATES all that is chewed best, is honoured with high grades at the end of an academic year........and the cycle continues and the same results being churned out in the outcome of our present day society. What a WOW???
Don't we realize it's not working???
WAKE UP GHANA! WAKE UP AFRICA and smell the sweet smell of change over the years of countries like China, India, Malaysia, South Korea and many more others where their GOD-GIVEN 'lingos', culture and traditions play a major role in transforming their nations.
GOD BLESS GHANA!

Certainly, there are scholars of the Twi language. However, our brand of education (or miseducation?) has had them believe that one doesn't sound intelligent when they communicate orally or write in Twi. People feel diffident when they do so. Take a closer look at the Twi presenters in the various media houses and you will come to terms with the issue. They intersperse their presentations with English phrases so much so that you wonder if the average listener who has not had their kind of miseducation can really understand them as it were. You see, they do this because, probably, they want to 'show off' their learning, and to, at the same time, indicate that "y3n nso te bor)fo"; that they aren't dumb. A case in point is Peace FM. But surprisingly, they almost always emerge as the best Twi radio station. Whoa! I am doing an analysis of a midday news at Peace FM. The facts will speak for themselves. You won't be wrong when you hang question marks on the standards folks use in adjudging who is the best Twi newscaster and so on and so forth. God save us for we are getting dumber and dumber day in, day out.

Very good article. However once again, typical of Ghanaians, we see and point out the problems. Tgat isn't enough. We will be doing ourselves and our country a great service by proposing SOLUTIONS as well.
One small start to solve such a problem is to encourage vigorous reading by children from early years. When the kids get the fundamentals of spelling and reading English from infancy, building on that is far far easier than waiting for them to grow up and then start the process.
Building and expanding library facilities in schools and communities will be another step in helping less endowed families to get access to reading material.
Parents should form reading clubs to promote reading, exchange of literature and ideas among themselves, and this will filter down to the children. They should be role models of reading and lead by example.
There is more we can do to enhance the use and development of English in our lives. But we must start with the little steps at the infancy or kindergarten levels.

It's not a crime to make a mistake but it is a crime to reject a suggestion or correction. That's my challenge with GES: they reject corrections.
"Who is not abreast with" instead of "not abreast of". Thank you.
Yea, I have read through but what i can say is that wé are more concern of things that doesnt bring development!

Here in Ghana, papers or results are everything. Wrong spellings are marked wrong at BECE and WASSCE.
When students fail, parents and GES say that we (teachers) are not working. Again, a student who fails cannot proceed in ...

Am for Science and Technology. Go to Finland and you will marveled.
No one requires correct info to work than a scientist.
The Finnish may have their own language. For us, we learn every subject via English.

Another mistake in this report. The word is notify instead of notice at where Limann was mentioned.
'Notice' is both a noun and a verb. It is correctly used as a verb at that location.
Good piece, but with personal names, especially Ghanaian names there can be no standard spelling like with English words. The Kuffour/Kufuor variants the writer gave is a good example. There are others like Akyeampong/Acheamp ...

....reading from "Several....", paragraph 16 line 2, there is an obvious punctuation mark missing, isn't there? Or is it stylistic too? As I pointed out, your piece is awashed with literary deficiencies.
Hyphenation and the use of commas are two areas where writers have a wide range of choices.
A comma at that location is a nuisance to advanced readers such as you, Nii. Therefore, that sentence is grammatical okay.

My dear, please read Randolf Quirk. He is an authority. Believe me, it will give some perspective
Quirk is rather the modern grammarians, whose teachings I follow. Notice that Quirk distastes traditional grammar but instead relies on using logic to prove his points.
Prove your point by stating the grammatical rule viol ...

"awashed"? The mistakes you mentioned do not merit that adjective. May we call it a figure of speech and name it 'exaggeration'?

We need people like you to keep our education authorities on their toes to do the right thing.

It is time for teachers, parents, and community members to decshool themselves, and establish their own schools, by creating Charter Schools, under the auspices of a reconstituted Ministry of Education.
I am afraid that would breed tribal schools - Nkranfuo school, Ayigbefuo school, Twifuo school, Dagartifuo school, Nzimafuo school, etc.
That goes to the educational and political leaders. Until that reform is implemented, we (parents and teachers) remain worried because our chn passing and progressing to higher levels depends on that foreign 'lingo'.
Do individual Ghanaian teachers ever write their own objectives when teaching subjects like language arts, science, social studies & vernacular?
Students will:

Everywhere you go is twi. From social media, TV and to the classrooms but the funny part is that the twi is written is an English alphabets. Now tell me, who are we fooling??? #onaapo
The sad but funny fact is that there are no "TWI SCHOLARS who have taken It upon themselves to publish in Twi for us to immerse ourselves in Twi culture, if there is one per se.
Certainly, there are scholars of the Twi language. However, our brand of education (or miseducation?) has had them believe that one doesn't sound intelligent when they communicate orally or write in Twi. People feel diffident ...

Minuah Elijah "da" poet, don't get me wrong, I'm talking about Twi Scholars publishing their own works to express the Twi worldview, not through oral prowess, but written documentations.
I hardly can understand the import of your comment. What has speaking Twi "everywhere" got to do with observing standards when we communicate in writing? The writer bemoans our lack of respect for standards in this regard, an ...
