1,000 children threatened by blindness to get help

Accra, Sept. 19, GNA - The Kinawis Clubs of Switzerland and Liechtenstein have promised to mobilize funds to assist about 1,000 needy children from Northern Ghana who are threatened by blindness. A statement issued by the Ghana Embassy in Switzerland said Mrs llse Oehler, President of the Club, made the announcement at the Annual Convention of the Club, in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Mr Kwabena Baah-Duodu, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ghana in Switzerland, appealed to the clubs to continue to extend a helping hand to the poor and needy and to turn pain into joy. He thanked the members of the clubs for the good work they were doing in the developing world.

Mrs Oehler said a strategic partnership had been forged between the club, the Swiss Red Cross Societies and the Ghana Health Service, which would be responsible for the implementation of the project. The club aims to collect 50,000 Swiss francs for the project. The Patron of the Club, Mrs Roswitha Merz and members of the organizing committee would visit Ghana in November to monitor the implementation of the campaign.
