Mr. Ogochwuku Nweke, a lecturer, and counselor at the African University College of Communication (AUCC) has said it is unfair for the media and the public to hurriedly tag the tragic death of the final year female student of the University of Ghana as suicide.

Jennifer Nyarko, a Consumer Science student, allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of her Akuafo Hall Annex A room 407 on Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

It is unclear what may have caused her to jump or fall from that height after she was found with severe head injuries.

However speaking in an interview with Ghanaweb.com, Mr. Nweke explained that her death can only be attributed to suicide after the Police have officially confirmed it in a statement.

"The deceased had a situation with mental health… It fundamentally means that she may not have understood or had the capacity to truly understand what she had done. It might be difficult to say she committed suicide. We have to find another name to give to it”, he told Ghanaweb.

Meanwhile, the Legon District Police says preliminary investigations into the circumstances leading to her death indicate a possible case of suicide.

The District Commander, DSP Ofori Anokye, says investigations is still ongoing.
