Teachers and Trainees Advocacy (TTA) has appealed to the National Teaching Council (NTC) to extend the deadline for the online registration and licensing of teachers in the country.

According to them, they have received complaints of challenges faced by some of the teachers explaining how difficult it is for them to register online.

Due to that, they are pleading for an extension as the deadline which is May 31 draws near.

Commending NTC for a bold step taken to get people registered online TTA said “The National Teaching Council has also taken a step further to license all teachers in the country through an online application. TTA appreciates the quick thinking of NTC, for not stressing teachers with long queues before getting the registration done. Nevertheless, TTA has received several complains on the difficulties one encounters in filling the online forms, and for that reason, we have placed a call to the office of NTC and, consequently, we have been credibly informed that there is an updated version of the app available on play store, which will better enhance the registration this time. Teachers are by that means, informed to download the updated app to enable them undertake this exercise successfully as the deadline draws near”.

Requesting for an extension, the group said “The leadership of TTA passionately appeals to the NTC through the Executive Director, Mrs Evelyn Oduro to extend the deadline said to be on 31st May 2019, to advantageously aid the teachers working at the deprived areas”.

The work of the National Teaching council still came to light amidst the fracas and the stiff resistance it faced from some Newly Trained Teachers from Colleges of Education. Regardless of all these hiccups, the Executive Secretary Mrs Evelyn Oduro and her team did their best to reinforce the policy of licensing all Newly Trained Teachers from the 46 colleges of education and all Institutions offering the BEd programme as the Constitution of Ghana demands.

TTA commends the leadership of the National Teaching Council for all the efforts put together to make the modern teacher stand tall among all other professionals. We have a strong conviction that, the implementation of the licensing policy will well enhance the 21st century Ghanaian teacher trainee in the various educational institutions.

As part of the preparations towards the ongoing Teacher Licensing and registration, TTA appreciates the efforts of NTC for arranging a meeting with all staff and students including those on the out-segment programme slated for 27th May and 18th June 2019. This meeting is purposed to brief them on the processes involved in the acquisition of the license and to provide them with all the standards they would need.
