The Minister of Health, Dr Kwaku AGyemang-Mensah, has expressed confidence that there will not be any case of Ebola in Ghana given the amount of work officials have put in to prevent the disease from breaking out in the country.
“I have been saying that we will talk about Ebola but we won’t see one because we are doing everything possible,” Dr Agyemang-Mensah said.
He was speaking on Thursday, October 2 when the Ministry of Health began distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline health workers in the prevention campaign on Ebola.
The disease has so far claimed 3,300 lives, according to the World Health Organisation, in four West African countries.
Though having recorded a case as the fifth West African country, Senegal is yet to record deaths as the victim, a student from Guinea, has recovered.
Blood samples of all suspected patients in Ghana have tested negative.
An Inter-Ministerial Team on Ebola chaired by the Health Minister is overseeing all activities aimed at preventing an outbreak of the disease in Ghana.
Dr Agyemang-Mensah maintains that the amount of work invested by the Team coupled with efforts by the district and regional health directorates will make it difficult for the virus to thrive in Ghana.
This comes in the wake of criticism in certain quarters especially within the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) that enough is not being done in the fight against the virus.
