Some old students of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) class of 2017 are expected to picket at the school’s premises to demand their academic certificates.

The students have complained that the school’s authorities have deliberately delayed their graduation ceremony and the issuance of certificates over claims of investigating suspicious admission results of some of the students.

Management of the Koforidua Technical University called off its congregation for the 2016/2017 graduating class, which was scheduled for Saturday, June 23, 2018.

The decision came after concerns raised by some of the past students who claimed that their names were omitted from the final list of graduating students.

They also petitioned the vice chancellor and management of the university to intervene.

The students, numbering over a thousand, said they have been unable to pursue other interests despite completing their national service.

The spokesperson for the group, Bismark Armah, told newsmen, “we are hitting the campus and we want to tell the management of the institution that it has been a year and four months and that we want our graduation to be done as early as possible. If not, we want our certificates and we’ll go away.”

If the management of the school has plans to hold the congregation, Mr. Armah said: “we want them to speed up their reaction.”

In addition, he warned that the protests would escalate if the students do not see any progress.

“That is why we are starting with picketing to give them the alert. If they fail to do this, we will hit the streets to do a full-time demonstration.”
