Mr Kofi Adams, National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said taking out the Voter ID card as a requirement for the Ghana Card registration placed an "economic blockade" on some Ghanaians, and therefore undermined its purpose.

He said the Voter ID remained the only free identification which already had millions of Ghanaians tagged, therefore the Party's demand for the card as a requirement was to ensure more Ghanaians had access to the new card.

"If you genuinely, truly want to register Ghanaians you go for an identification source that has over five million persons already holding it," Mr Adams said.

He was addressing the 2018 Volta Regional Delegates conference of the NDC in Ho on Saturday on the theme "Mobilising for Victory 2020", which attracted a good representation of Party Executives from the Region.

"One paper that was truly reliable, that was done through biometric verification is the Voter ID card. There is a lot of interest that all political party reps from the various communities are present at the registration centre and only allow people they know are Ghanaians to register", Mr Adams stated.

He added that the NDC had no motive of derailing the national identification process, and would continue to play its role in keeping Government in check.

"So please when you hear them say it is the NDC that is ambushing the Ghana Card, no. What we are saying is that make it easier for Ghanaians to be able to register", Mr Adams stated.

Mr Koku Anyidoho, Deputy General Secretary of the Party asked members to respect the definition of delegates, and work hard to rebuild the party in unity.

Mr Korsi Bojah, Regional Organiser for the New Patriotic Party commended strides by the NDC at re-organisation, and called for unity and collaboration towards the prosperity of the nation.

Mr Foster Segbe, Regional Secretary of the Progressive People's Party also lauded the NDC for its vigilance in opposition, and asked its leaders to hem in, its grassroots for victory in 2020.

The election of Regional Executives by 884 delegates and 34 candidates begun at about 1330 hours and run late into the night.

Youth and women organisers were elected on Friday with Mathew Kabilla Alagba, and Fafa Agbai wining the respective positions.
