Sankore (C/R), Feb. 02, GNA - The Ghana Baptist Convention, in collaboration with a team of medical officers from the United States and Canada, are undertaking surgical operation and offering medical service to about 2000 needy patients in the Central and Western regions. The 16-member medical team made up of surgical specialists, doctors, nurses and evangelists are operating patients with hernia and are providing health services to those with hypertension, diabetics and other ailments.
They brought along drugs and surgical equipment for the exercise. Mr. Jarvis Djokoto, Director of the Ghana Baptist Convention responsible for Socio-Economic and Relief Service, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency after the team had attended to a number of patients at Sankore, a suburb of Winneba.
Mr. Djokoto said some patients were operated upon while others were treated for hypertension and diabetes at Senya Beraku and Kweikrom in the Central Region.
He said the team would move to Begoso and Tarkwa in the Western Region to provide similar services before the end of their two weeks' stay in the Ghana.
Mr. Djokoto said the exercise would cost the convention and the team about 100,000 US dollars and that patients were made to pay token fees. Rev. Kojo Amo, General Secretary of Ghana Baptists Convention, expressed the convention's gratitude to the medical team for the exercise. 02 Feb 07
