Founding Member of the Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Helena Nti, has poured scorn on assertions that drinking milk right after chewing cashew nuts may lead to one’s death.

According to her, this myth is not backed by fact or scientific evidence.

In an interview with GhanaWeb on the back on World Milk Day celebration, Helena averred that, “As far as I know, there is no scientific evidence that suggests that having some milk minutes after taking cashew nuts can kill. There’s no fact to that”.

She explained that sometimes it is important to combine such foods to make a complete meal, especially for some group of vegetarians because cashew is rich in plant protein and healthy fats, whereas milk on the other hand is rich in animal protein.

The nutritionist advised that “people who have perceptions about all sorts of milk and any other foods should do some research or ask the experts for clarifications”.

Every June 1, World Milk Day is celebrated globally to recognize the importance of milk as a global food.
