Obuasi, May 22, GNA - The Obuasi Municipal Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has so far collected 2.05 billion cedis as premiums as against 5.5 billion cedis paid as claims to various health facilities. It meant that the scheme had to fall on subsidies from the National Secretariat to meet its claims obligations.

Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, acting Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, who announced this at an assembly meeting at Obuasi, said currently an average of almost 113 million cedis was paid monthly as claims to health institutions.

He said so far a total of 64,256 people had fully registered with the scheme with 56,021 identity cards issued out to beneficiaries. Mr. Assibey-Antwi, who is also the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, was not happy about the misunderstanding in the payment of premiums and urged the management of the scheme to step up its public education to clear all doubts.

He also charged the scheme manager to conduct their interviews well so that premiums could genuinely be graduated according to the social status of the person.

The Deputy Regional Minister stressed on honesty in the management of the scheme from both the management and the beneficiaries. 22 May 07
