Sankor senior high school gets 13-Member Board of Governors

A-13-Member Board of Governors was on Friday inaugurated and sworn-in to steer the affairs of the Sankor Senior High school near Dixcove in the Ahanta-West Municipality.

The board has as its Chair person, Nana Bonya Kofi V1, an old student representative and an opinion leader, Mr. Ashford Adams representative of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.

Other members are; the Western Regional Director of Education, Mr Addo Dankwa Akuffo, Headmaster of Sankor SHS, Mr.Joseph Kwaw Blay, the Ahanta-West Municipal Director of Education, Mr.Mark Adoba Adatekey, Mr.Arnold Geoffry Arthur represents the PTA, Mr.Robert Muhammed represents the teaching staff and Madam Mercy Ampah serves the non-teaching staff on the board, Mr Samuel Johnfiah, also an old student and opinion leader.

The rest are; Mr Emmanuel Qauyson and madam Keita Fatimata,both from the Municipal Assembly.

Mr.Francis Mensah Baidoo and Nana Ndakyefor both represent historical interest.

The Superintendent Minister of the Dixcove circuit of the Methodist Church, Very Reverend Isaac B. Cronze who administered the oath of allegiance, office and secrecy, charged the board to be selfless, committed and dedicated in their work to spearhead development of the school.

Mr Akuffo Regional reminded the board to work within its terms of reference, but not to impose issues on school authorities.

He charged the board to ensure that the highest standard of discipline was maintained and challenged the students to learn hard to set an enviable record for the school.

The Headmaster, Mr Blay bemoaned that due to the lack of accommodation, the Headmaster, staff and students commuted to school from Agona-Nkwanta and Takoradi.

He added that the school was confronted with other challenges such as; the absence of an ICT lessons due to lack of computers, inadequate classroom furniture and an uncompleted E-block.

Mr. Blay appealed to the Board to ensure that the school was connected to the national electricity grid and completed the School washrooms.

The Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in an address read on his behalf, admitted that the Assembly was aware of the problems bedeviling the school and pledged to donate a school bus and a headmaster's car among other interventions to better the lot of the school.

He charged the Board to act swiftly to ensure that the E-block was completed for conducive academic work.
