President Akufo-Addo has chided former President Mahama for peddling untruths about his (Mahama’s) government’s ‘unprecedented’ infrastructure development in Ghana, ABC News Ghana can report.

According to President Akufo-Addo, John Mahama’s claim of ‘unprecedented’ infrastructural development during his era smacks of a lack of respect for the ordinary Ghanaian particularly when he, John Mahama, knew his comments were nothing more than misleading statements.

President Akufo-Addo made this claim during a visit by the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs to the Jubilee house Tuesday, May 7 ABC News Ghana can confirm.

The members of the Regional House of the Upper West Region had, in their interaction with the President urged for the fast tracking of the constructions of the Wa Air Strip and the Upper West Regional Hospital.

In response, the president acknowledged the existing challenge with the country’s road infrastructure, pledging the commitment of his government to ensure a lot more is done to improve the situation.

He said “roads are my biggest burden in Ghana,” as he responded to the concerns raised. He added however that the ‘dishonest’ claims by President Mahama on the supposed improvement in the country’s road infrastructure, a problem he says remains a top priority for people everywhere he goes.

“Before I came here, I was told by my biggest competitor that they have done all the roads in Ghana and that they are responsible for an unprecedented infrastructural development, every where I go, I do not think there is any authority institution that has talked to me and has not raised the issue about the roads in their area as their principal concern,” the President said.

President Akufo-Addo advised John Mahama and other politicians to desist from the practice of making misleading statements, and, in some instances, lying to Ghanaians all in a bid for power.

“It is not good for us as politicians to be misleading the people. If you have not done something, don’t claim it. Don’t write it in your books and don’t make pronouncements on it,” he said.
