Over 100 Ghanaians trooped into the premises of renowned chiropractic centre, Nova Wellness Centre, to have their vitals, body mass index and posture checked.

The free health screening, which is part of activities for the centre’s fifth anniversary, featured a health talk on the spine and how wrong posture affects it, routine BMI and posture check, as well as a complimentary chiropractic treatment.

Chief Executive Officer of Nova Wellness Centre, Dr Naa Asheley Dordor asserted that majority of Ghanaians are unaware they have spinal problems due to ignorance of chiropractic complications.

“We’ve noticed that a lot of Ghanaians have spinal problems. Either they ignore them or they can’t afford it or for whatever reason, they never treat it. So we decided that as we celebrate our five years anniversary, we’re going to invite people to come in so that we will check their spines to see if there are any problems there,” Dr Asheley Dordor disclosed.

She bemoaned the low chiropractor-to-patient ration, linking it to the low awareness on spinal complications.

She said, “There are very few chiropractors in Ghana. For a country of 27 million, there are maybe 10 or 15 chiropractors, but not more than that. So we are all doing our best to educate the public. So that’s why a lot of people may not have heard about it but I know that all the chiropractors do a lot of education and spinal awareness to help people improve their spinal conditions.”

Controversial lifestyle counsellor, George Lutterodt, who is a regular visitor at the centre was among persons who patronized the health screening.

He blamed the country’s educational curriculum for the insufficient knowledge on spinal issues, arguing that the current curriculum does not factor in health as a major concern.

“Our curriculum has changed. The system of education we are running right now does not help the growing child as a Ghanaian. Growing up, the educational system we had, gave you health consciousness, gave you a sense of wellness. I believe that we have failed our people when it comes to clinical reportage,” he observed.

The Nova Wellness Centre is a chiropractic healthcare facility that provides services such as chiropractic care, massage, and physiotherapeutic modalities.
