Reformers and Extinguishers Battle to a Stalemate

The Beverage Investments Ghana Limited sponsored Greater Accra Pepsi Hockey League entered the 21st Week with 7 matches on Saturday, November 23, 2002; 5 in the Men’s Division, 1 in the Ladies’ Division and 1 in the Juvenile Division.

In the battle for the ladies’ title, defending champions Reformers of Prisons Service were held to 0-0 draw by title aspirants Extinguishers of Fire Service. The game lived up to its billing as the top-liner for the day as tension engulfed the National Hockey Pitch from the early hours of the day ahead of the match.

Both sides played their hearts out to the admiration of the cheering fans who were treated to one of the classics of the ladies’ game in Ghana in recent times.

By this scoreline, the two clubs are caught in the battle for supremacy and a place in the Africa Cup for Club Champions Competition scheduled for Pretoria in South Africa in March 2003. The race for the championship promises to be exciting and will be determined in the coming weeks.

Marine Keep the up the Chase on Exchequers

The game was rather tight with Multistix giving their younger opponents a lot of anxious moments throughout the game till a rather controversial decision by the two umpires killed the fighting spirit of the oldmen. Trailing 1-2 as a result of the umpires’ decision, the Multistix men lost their concentration and allowed Marine Sticks to seal their victory with a third goal to keep up their title chase.
