A communications team member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Yaw Opoku Mensah has taken on the minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs) calling for a freeze on their salaries and other emoluments as lawmakers of Ghana.

“Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini and all the NDC Minority in Parliament deserve no salary for their recent conduct in Parliament. …how can a lawmaker be in black attire and use plaster to seal his mouth because he does not want to talk?”

According to the NPP apologist, this has dragged the country’s name into disrepute before the international communities and they must apologize to their constituents and the people of this country.

“The Speaker of Parliament should summon MP for Tamale North and his colleagues before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee for necessary punishment”, the outspoken NPP Communicator admonished Speaker Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye.

“From the Minority Leader to the last man standing, all the NDC members in the house should be punished”, Mr. Yaw Opoku Mensah spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM morning show “Kroyimunsem” hosted by Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.

NDC caucus in Parliament showcased varying symbols of protest during President Nana Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation address last week Thursday

A number of them were seen in black apparel, whilst others had pieces of plaster on their mouths, symbolizing some sort of gagging.

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, was himself, wearing black traditional Dagomba wartime regalia.

During the national anthem, the Minority MPs made sure they empathized the parts of the verse that said: “…and help us to resist oppressors’ rule with all our will and might for evermore.”
