Following her defeat in the 2024 parliamentary election, a video of the outgoing Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, from 2020 has emerged on social media.

In the video of an interview granted by the MP to Asempa FM, Owusu-Ekuful, who has been the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West since the inception of the constituency in 2012, expressed confidence in holding on to the seat until her death.

“On 8th January dawn, people were rolling over that NDC had won while I was holding my collated results. I was very puzzled, asking myself, ‘What? Ablekuma West, ja agbele, that means unless death. Me and Ablekuma West till death do us part,’” she stated in the aftermath of the 2020 general election where she retained her seat.

She implored persons eyeing the seat to shelve their ambitions, emphasising her grip on the seat.

“Those nursing ambitions should look for other work. I’ve stated that Ablekuma West Constituency Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu, ja agbele (unless death),” she said.

Despite her confidence in 2020, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who is the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation in the outgoing government, lost the 2024 election to the Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Reverend Kwaku Addo.

In the presidential race, John Dramani Mahama, who was the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, won the race, according to the results declared by the Electoral Commission.

He beat 12 other candidates with 56.55% of the total valid votes.

His closest contender, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party, obtained 41.61% of the total valid votes cast.
