Six hundred and forty- four inmates of the Koforidua prisons are expected to register under the Biometric Voters Registration exercise on Tuesday.

This was disclosed to the Ghana News Agency by the New Juaben Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Ms Lydia Agyiri, after briefing the prisoners and prison officers about the registration procedure to prepare them for the exercise.

She said the EC would not be looking at the history of the inmates but would only apply the electoral laws.

Ms Agyiri said all the inmates who are over 18 years and above and are of sound mind and willing to register as a voter would be registered provided one has any of the identity cards prescribed in the electoral regulations or can get people to stand as guarantors.

She said the voters’ register of the Koforidua Prisons would be attached to that of the Pope John polling station, because that is the nearest polling centre.

She said the staff of the EC would be at the prisons by 0800 hours and hoped that by 1600 hours, the registration exercise would have ended.**
