The Abuakwa South Constituency Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disassociated itself from recent media reports that the youth wing of the party in the area had lost confidence in the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Samuel Atta Kyea, and was calling on Mr. Owuraku Amofa to contest as Independent Candidate in the upcoming elections.

A national daily in its May 16 edition published a story with the headline “Abuakwa South NPP youth roots for Owuraku Amofa” and attributed the source to Ghana News Agency.

In the said publication, a group calling itself Patriotic Youth of Abuakwa South allegedly held a press conference in Accra and accused Mr. Atta Akyea for failing to live up to expectation and also meddling in chieftaincy matters at Kyebi.

The group therefore called on Mr. Owuraku Amofa, former National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for the area who defected to the NPP in 2008, to come and contest as independent candidate in order to retain the seat.

Reacting to the publication, a statement signed by Mr. Okaompah Agyemang, Constituency Youth Organizer, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday, described the said group as faceless and non-existing, who had made several attempts to dent the hard won reputation of the MP.

“On record, out of the 16 fun clubs in the constituency, there is none that bears such name. It is only out of hatred and shear ignorance that has captured the minds of some people who out of public fright and criticism have yet remained anonymous”.

The statement said the MP had never abandoned his duty and never engaged himself in chieftaincy issues as alleged by the group.

It said under the leadership of Mr. Atta Akyea, the area had seen massive development in education and health among others from his own resources.

The statement described as false the notion that Mr. Owuraku Amofa was interested in contesting the seat as an independent candidate, but rather pledged his fullest support to Mr. Atta Akyea and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, flag-bearer of the party.

“We are throwing a big challenge to the ghost pillars behind this lackadaisical behaviour to really come out from their tomb and live as humans or remain in their mortal skeleton bones forever”, the statement added.**
