The Patriotic Youth of Abuakwa, has accused the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area for meddling in chieftaincy issues and called on the constituents to reject him in the December 7 polls.

They alleged that for the past three years, Mr Atta Akyea had substituted his prescribed duty of party organisation and community development with the incitement of divisive and explosive chieftaincy issues.

The group, which says it is dedicated to the ideals of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the election of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana, made this known at a press conference in Accra.

Mr. Kojo Owusu, Coordinator of the Group told journalists that, for the past three years the MP had shown appalling neglect of the people of the Abuakwa South Constituency,

They proposed that Owuraku Amofa, a former MP should stand as an independent candidate in the next parliamentary polls.

“We are calling on the youth and people of Abuakwa South to accept another son of the land to contest as an independent candidate… Owuraku Amofa has won our hearts and we appeal to him to contest the Abuakwa South seat as an independent candidate,” the group said.

The group praised the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, and the former MP as being of high repute; and Owuraku Amofa as having fought relentlessly for the progress of the area even when his party was not in power.

Members of the group expressed concern that the current situation is emboldening the ruling National Democratic Congress in Abuakwa South and is likely to affect the electoral fortunes of the NPP in the immediate and the long term.**
