Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper has waded into the recent controversy of the case involving Gregory Afoko, brother of the former NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

Gregory Afoko has been standing trial since 2015 as a suspect in the murder of Adams Mahama, late Upper East Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

A High court presided over by Justice George Baudi granted Gregory Afoko bail in March 2019 in the sum of ¢500,000 with two sureties after his lawyers applied.

However, the bail ruling was overturned by an Accra High Court presided over by Justice Merley Afua Wood.

Prior to this after the court granted Gregory Afoko bail, he was still in custody until it was overturned.

Some Civil society groups feel if indeed all the bail conditions were met by the suspect yet he was not released then there is a travesty of justice and an abuse of his rights.

OccupyGhana in a statement is seeking punishment for officers who flouted Afoko’s bail order.

Part of the statement read, “Ordinarily, we would hesitate to comment on a matter that is pending in court. But we must be concerned when there is any appearance of gross and blatant violations of the constitutional rights of a citizen.”

When the issue was tabled for discussion on Wednesday's edition of Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kweku Baako noted that per his checks, the bail conditions were not fully met.

“Relative to the fulfillment of the bail condition, there is a gap and if you have not fulfilled the bail conditions, then what is the noise about?" he asked.
